Smallville (spoilers)

here's another look at Hawkman, plus Doctor Fate and Stargirl:

part of me thinks these look horrible, but another part thinks they look cool. I'm reminded of the Minutemen costumes from Watchmen for some reason. Hopefully this TV movie is good. I haven't watched Smallville in years.

Hawkman looks amazing, maybe even movie-worthy, even if his wings are a bit too dark and 'evil' looking (I still think they look a bit too much like the wings the hawkmen had in the Flash Gordon movie).

Dr. Fate looks quite good although his mask is a bit hokey. Stargirl sadly looks like something out of Power Rangers. What were they thinking, giving her a plasticky mask like that?

Either way, I'm still really looking forward to this. It's cool that they're not afraid to have actual superhero costumes on Smallville, anymore.

Hawkman's wings are too small and I don't like them being black. Other than that his costume looks pretty cool. Dr. Fate isn't bad, but I don't really like his eyes. Even though his costume is a little silly, I kinda like it. I don't like Stargirl's.

so as I mentioned earlier in this thread, every once in a while I go on a smallville kick and watch about a season's worth of episodes in a couple of weeks. Usually by the end I've had about all I can take of the trashy teen angst and have to stop for 6 months to a year. I've recently been watching season 4. It's probably my favourite season that I've seen. Mostly because Lana is dating Jason Teague the whole season so there isn't much romantic interaction between Lana and Clark. I also really like Clark and Lois' interaction. I know she never knew him before he worked at the daily planet, but this is a different retelling and they have an awesome dynamic together.

I'm really dreading rewatching season 5 though. I watched most of it on TV when it was airing several years ago and it was so depressing.

But I am looking forward to the Absolute Justice tv movie this Friday.

i know what ya mean....i let the show go for a little while and started back up with season ?7? when they introduce supergirl.

Absolute Justice comes out this Friday? was wondering when that was gonna make the airways.

if this works out well, i hope they give Justin Hartley (Green Arrow) his own series. with the rest of the league.

sad to say, hes one of the only reasons i tune in. nothing like a cold blooded killer.

I caught the second half of Absolute Justice on tv.

I wasn't all that impressed. The story was really cliche and not all that interesting, and a lot of the characters were REALLY over acting.

i thought Michael Shanks did a wonderful job....yeah, some of his stuff was over the top, but he portrayed Hawkman pretty good. he did good with what he was given with. and Brent Stait did a decent job as Dr. Fate

still wished they hadn't killed off Sandman

Not expecting this to be too good, but I'm eager to watch it, tomorrow. Complaints about an unoriginal plot in an episode of Smallville don't surprise me, I'm sad to say. Hopefully it'll be fun, anyway.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this. Sheer fun from start to finish, with some great Geoff Johns characterisation moments. I especially like how he 'fixed' the dumb ending they had previously given Martian Manhunter (just the kind of thing he's known for). I really loved Dr. Fate, even though he wasn't quite as cool as he was in the JLU cartoon.

The final battle was one of the best action scenes this show has ever had. Clark's heat vision looks great now.

The only criticisms I have was that yes, the plot was a bit clichéd and also it was irritating hearing so much about Jay and Alan and never actually seeing them (although seeing the winged helmet and the Lantern was awesome).

I actually admit that this wasn't that bad. Hawkman and Dr. Fate were pretty cool and I thought the Martian Manhunter scenes were well done. Honestly the best part for me was the film footage of the JSA being brought into custody. I think it would have worked better if they were all in costume for it though.

Yeah, I was thinking about this and you're absolutely right. Unlike Clark who is stringently trapped in his well-worn destiny, Green Arrow is a more malleable character. You can change his costume, shuffle his supporting cast and actually have him grow as a character without insulting legions of fans. This just hasn't really been possible for Young Clark Kent for the past six seasons. He's just been stuck in this limbo, constantly on the cusp of becoming Superman and just not doing it for some reason.

Yeah, when Smallville ends I kind of hope we get a Green Arrow spinoff with a different set of writers and producers. Eric Kripke and Geoff Johns collaborating on a Green Arrow show would be awesome.

This show has spiked in quality, once again. The Checkmate plot is actually kind of cool and this episode made great use of Martian Manhunter and Green Arrow.

I really never thought I would say this, especially after the abomination that was last seasons Doomsday, but the season 9 finale, Salvation, was fantastic.

It appears the real costume is ready and waiting for him to put on now, hinted at the start of the episode. The final fight between Clark and Zod was really nicely done, much better than the "throw car punch end scene" of the Doomsday/Clark 'fight'.
And on top of it all.... it looks like Darkseid is coming.... as when Tess died, it seems Granny Goodness was waiting outside her room for her.

its was an o.k. season finale, i just hate the cat and mouse games they play with Louis, tell her and then recant. however the finial battle scene was pretty cool, and good use of the slow motion technology.

Granny Goodness?!? i'll have to go look her up, i was wondering who that was.

Ladies and Gentleman, Superman is BACK (sort of...in the future).

But yeah, this episode was genuinely good, bordering on great. For the first time, in a long time, it felt like I was watching a Superman show and Tom Welling had more brilliant character moments in this episode than he has had in years. The final battle was brilliant (for a TV show).

While the "glimpse into the future" stuff was yet again, just another cocktease, it was a sublime one at that. Jimmy (the real Jimmy, this time), Lois, Perry as the editor, Lex Luthor running for President and Clark leaving his glasses at his desk as SUPERMAN goes to save the day. Awesome. :)

I haven't said this since 2003, but I can't wait for the next Season of Smallville.
