Pet-Peeve Thread 4: More peeve than you can handle.

For a moment, I thought this thread's subtitle was "More pee than you can handle."

I totally need to go to bed.

Spiderwebs.

The number one reason to not go outside or clean out old closets.

Spiders themselves don't bother me that much, oddly.

I don't know, I can handle a lot. I was offered a spot on the Great Britain Olympic team for watersports

I don't like spiders at all. Webbing is yuck for me too. I keep thinking "remove the web and your just going to piss him off" so I leave it for someone else. Same with killing the big Man-spiders I find in my bath. Though I can kill them using liquid soap and the tap. (liquid soaps stops him climbing out to freedom and getting me)

My peeve today after just seeing an advert on tv is Meet The Spartans is on Blu-ray but Back to the future trilogy , The first 3 Indiana Jones films , the star wars movies and ghostbusters 1 + 2 are not!

Though ghostbusters and Back to the future have been announced it just makes me think "what the hell is wrong with studios not putting them on there" Just a personal peeve, not sure if anyone here feels the same

I was annoyed that it took so long to get Heroes, Transformers, and Ultimate Matrix on Blu-Ray.

My pet peeve is when companies constantly put out a new version of a dvd of a movie every chance they get, I just bought this movie, why the hell do I have to buy it again!?

You don't.

You don't.
You're both right.

I don't think of the whole new version of a DVD thing something DVD consumers should fret so much over. It's like the difference between different editions of a book.

Just because people bought an English translation of a Japanese crime novel once, and they decided they want to put out a new version but with a fancier dustcover designed by Chip Kidd, and with a foreword from a really famous guy, notes from the translator and remarks from the original author and it's a "PS" edition which includes interviews and bonus features at the end of the book... but nobody talks about how they have to buy it again.

I mean it's not that big a deal, and I think Yanquis (and Yanqui-influenced consumer cultures) make a bigger deal out of DVDs solely because movies are currently the mass culture, when they don't seem to mind the same thing about books. Or automobiles ("I just bought the new Mitsubishi Lancer, why are they trying to make me buy a new one?!?").

However, I do think there should be a lot more restraint when it comes to producing new editions of consumer goods.

For example, as someone who writes a lot at work about automobile technology, I have to say that the industry could stand to putting a bigger time gap between new editions of certain automobile models. Software companies could stand to actually making less updates with more significance in each update (Did you know that about a third of software revenue is people buying the new version of the same thing they already have?)

In the case of movies & home video, I think it's perfectly fine for the first DVD to be pretty basic --- deleted scenes, 'making of' featurette consisting entirely of publicity shill such as Jessica Alba saying 'I hearz Fantastic Four OMG', commentary --- because the companies really need to get those things out for the video rental market.

The second DVD is the "You love this movie" edition --- animatics, multiple commentaries, some insipid web content, DVD remote interaction, feature-length making of, and the obligatory 10 minute how'd they do that crucial effect/scene. And maybe 10 years later, it's the masturbation edition filled with lots of stuff to convince you of the importance of the film and/or celebrate its anniversary.

Then...

There's George Lucas.

I think what Random is REALLY contending is not that companies put out multiple editions of movies on DVD. It's that they do it with such alarming frequency as to be obnoxious.

Yeah. Though I am sad to say the animated Transformers I own 4 times now  cut , Uncut with little documentry at start from over here , uncut remastered , bluray

Live action wise not bought the bluray yet as it's not out here yet.

But tv wise (cause you mentioned heroes) I'm annoyed with smallville. the new seasons = bluray but no plans for old? That makes me buy dvd so it matches

Like E said you don't. However every time they re-release Star wars you kinda do as the new ones = Cannon and previous versions have non-cannon in them if a scenes been changed.

But no you don't have too. I just do with certain movies like when ghostbusters comes out on blu-ray I'll get it to have it hd version. When some films come with extras as I'm a sucker for extras. E.g transformers live action on dvd. My brother got it for like £4 at his work. He asked me if I want it. I said no and I went out and spent like £20 to get 2 disc version for extras

... I was joking. E and mole were complaining how it's taking so long for movie to go on Blue ray that if they were immediately updating for every little step in technology we'd have dozens of new editions all of which seems pretty pointless to me

Blue ray that if they were immediately updating for every little step in technology

To be fair it is a pretty big step.

Almost in not as big a step as vhs to dvd.

That's just my opinion on it though :D

Admit it... you're going to put out UC: Cartoon on Blu-Ray soon, aren't you?

I could but why have something that will look just as crappy, plus its probably cost a lot more.

Hey, is this why no one bought the dvd, they're all waiting for the blueray version?
