My sides hurt from laughing so hard at this:

Marvel's Craziest Swimsuit Specials

The Punisher, Wasp, and Wonderman ones are probably the most hilarious. Also, here's one that didn't make the cut:

I wonder if he knows Tobias...

ComicAlliance never lets me down with hilarity.

Those Marvel Swimsuit Specials were the most pathetic piece of wankery ever invented. Stuff like that is why people make fun of comic book readers.

Anyone who ever bought or read those is a pathetic loser.

E probably bought 3 of those things during the decade.

In all seriousness, E's right. The closest I came to ever owning any of those were the few add-on pages at the end of my X-Men collector's edition issues. That "X-Men by the Pool" pic by Jim Lee in this issue:

Oh the 90s......

Marvel Announces "Marvel's Greatest Comics"

Marvel Comics has announced "Marvel's Greatest Comics," a new imprint dedicated to spotlighting various Marvel series with specially priced $1 issues. The first title, "Invinicible Iron Man" #1, will be sent to retailers for free.

I think this is a bad idea. Reading issue #1 of a series thats 20-50 issues deep doesn't seem like a selling point to me. It seems like something that I'd look at on the shelf and think "that'll end up on the floor soon.". What they should do is make First issues for new creative teams of for launched of books $1. Or make V1 of trades $9.99. Go for introductory prices on, ya know, the introducion. Like Fables V1 was cheaper than V2 but 1 had more issues. This just seems like a waste of time to me.

I don't know...if you are introducing these books to a new audience...what is the difference between this and when they first published the first issue initially? You have to start somewhere.

I do agree with cheaper trades. They can take reprint them on cheaper paper or whatever.

I hate when they do that.

On one hand I think that trying to get new readers into ongoing series that have dozens of issues deep is a hard sell so you'd want introductory issues to be cheap.

But on the other hand I think it should be done differently. One single issue isn't gonna make me want to catch up on all 27 issues. Instead what they should do is transfer these promos to the digital realm. These little promo cards they do-----yeah, make a card advertising the first ARC of the comic available online for $5 (not even animated...just the regualr Adobe Viewer/page turner version). To be able to read a full arc and get a feel for the writer, story, etc...is invaluable to me. I'd gladly pay $5 (even $10!) to read the first arc and see if this is something I'm gonna want to follow.

Hm.... I'd sell the first issue for a dollar and then either have big promo advertisements for the rest of the first trade online or give some sort of coupon code to access the first trade online. If you're trying to get readers into the door, that's how to do it. Expose them to the first full story and let them catch up in the trades. I'd take the dollar issues and try to get them all over the direct market. You use that to open people up to the idea of online comic books and also hopefully convince them to buy hard copies of the stories.

Yeah. Something to that effect.

So, I was surprised, but the first issue of Siege was honestly kind of stupidly charming. And they decided to include back matter like in Blackest Night.

So, they've announced a new Black Widow ongoing, written by Marjorie Liu with art by Daniel Acuna

Why do they keep announcing Acuna as the new ongoing artist on books only to have him do a hand-ful of issues? only 6 issues on Eternals, like 3 on X-Men Legacy, they should have him doing mini's or something if he can't hold a schedule.

Also he seems like an odd fit for a Black Widow book, Marjorie Liu however seems like a good fit.

I like the current Black Widow and the Marvel Girls series, but not so much the Black Widow Origins mini that's also out right now.

Not really surprised. I've been reading the Strange mini, but I skipped this one, does anyone know if it's any good?

I was expecting that. The artist wasn't bad, but drew a horrible Beast. Also, while the story was an interesting plot (all aliens from Earth being evicted), it wasn't being told very well. Too much focus on Abagail and her side quest than the main story. The worst part was the dialogue. Beast was spot on, but everyone else was just flat and boring.
