Marvel Cinematic Universe - Timeline (Part 2)

I think it's perfectly acceptable to use the moon phases if we use it for every movie and show where it isn't contradicted - just to be consistent with everything.
My issue with it is that while Moon Knight may have considered it given the nature of the show, I doubt any other shows and movies use the moon to accurately determine their placements. I mean there are already examples of our moon not lining up with the MCU's. I just think it gets messy when the moon lines up for some things and not others. Just my opinion though.

That's how all evidence is, though. Sometimes you have to ignore prop dates as well. Does that mean you should ignore all prop dates? On-screen evidence is evidence regardless is what I'm trying to say.

It's like when certain timelines don't match their days of the week. It's almost certainly a mistake yet I see people argue the days of the week are different in the MCU, even though most of the time it matches perfectly. When a moon phase doesn't fit, ignore it. When it does, I say use it.

I'm pretty sure this is the stance the wiki takes. Given we don't tend to guesstimate actual dates like they do, I doubt the moon gets used much anyway. Usually actual dates are pinpointed down if they're confirmed within an actual project.

So how does that work with deleted scenes? General concencus of this forum is that they are ignored, even though, in YOUR own words, at one point they did matter, until the powers at be decided they didn't matter? So why are people clinging to the damn moon phases, regardless of what the original intent is, Marvel no longer place the same importance on them (for Covid, for they don't care, or any other reason). Surely what Marvel thinks takes precedence over anyone here's self important and proclaimed 'authority' on the subject hmmm? So you need to decide what your own consistency is...
I will reiterate...again...that the timeline is based on WHAT IS IN THE FINAL PRODUCT. All I was stating about the VFX moon phases was that they made them for a reason, back when they had references, and then when they removed the references they left in the moon stuff because they figured no one would notice or care. The fact is though...they were left in. That's on Marvel. If they REALLY wanted all the references gone they should have gone the whole nine yards and mixed up the moon stuff so it wouldn't appear the way it did that matches up with the real world. Because they left it in, it can be valid evidence to use for this timeline.

And yes, and I stated before, if something retcons a movie/show's placement, we will work out the new placement here and adjust accordingly. For example, if say season 2 of MK obviously takes place in 2026, and Steven or Marc says 'last year we made peace with each other' then clearly 2024 is not going to work with that because that would be two years. We will discuss and work it out here.

Trust me, the placement of Phase 1 got really fun...sarcasm...when Civil War came out, because on DB's thread we had to re-make sense of the timeline after IM2's 6 months later, TIH, and Thor along with Fury's big week. Go back and look at it. Eventually we all worked it out. Did everyone agree, no, but again, that's not the point of this thread...it's not about you or me, it's about getting it all locked in where it all makes the best sense.

Have we decided how long the time jump is before the credits in Love & Thunder? Enough time has passed for the Mighty Thor statue to be built. I think it's at least a few months, maybe around Fall.

I'd say that seems likely yeah, seems like there's a couple jumps in the film both after she becomes Thor and after she dies.

Right now, I'm thinking:
April- Gorr becomes God Butcher, Jane does chemo, and tests her blood on the 30th.
May- Early in the month Jane arrives in New Asgard and becomes Mighty Thor, later in the month Gorr attacks Asgard, Jane and Thor reunite, and Jane dies.
October- Valkyrie continues training kids in New Asgard, Korg's met Dwayne, Thor, and Love battle on a random planet.

Of course, there doesn't have to be that big a jump.

I'm thinking maybe a little more time between when James becomes Thor and when they reunite. It feels like all of New asgard was pretty comfortable with her being there. Like it wasn't a big spectacle anymore. But honestly, who knows. It's kind of all up to speculation at this point since besides the blood test, everything else is pretty vague. I really hope Marvel stops cutting out their timeline hints

Yeah, the vagueness is getting pretty tiring. Especially in a movie like Love & Thunder where there is clearly time jumps where it could be days, weeks, months, etc.

I was thinking early or mid June for the epilogue stuff with Thor and Love because Thor is still wearing more summer like clothes, and I feel like a month is a good enough time jump that encompasses everything from Korg and Val training with Sif who is still recovering from her arm being lost.

Another video from Geekritique up, I haven't had a chance to see it but figured I'd put it here in case anyone was interested

He covers basically everything we've already said here the past few weeks. Placing it in 2024 before MK. About the only thing he didn't mention that I thought of while watching it was that Peter asks Fury in FFH about Thor and Fury responds that he's off-world, which given LAT's ending, he would be.

I mean Thor is "off world" a lot. I wouldn't necessarily look at FFH as being a specific reference to Love & Thunder. I mean I originally thought it was a reference to him being with the Guardians. And there's some points in that video that I personally disagree with, but given we've settled with 2024 here, I'll leave it at that.

So finally got a chance to watch the video. Lines up with what we've found which is always nice. Couples things I wanted to comment on

Taika Waititi's comment on when Love and Thunder just shows why we shouldn't take directors comments on this stuff seriously. I know he's a goofy guy but this shows how little they know about their timeline placement. Even Gunn's comments show he doesn't know exactly where GotGV3 is falling. And yet there are gonna be those people that are like "these guys work for Marvel, what makes you think you know better" like litterally everything makes me think that. That's my rant

I think the fact that Groot hasn't seemed to age much between now and Endgame does point to it being closer to it then the GotGHS which I think is likely going to take place Christmas 2025. I didn't even think to use Groot's age as a way to place the film. Was this brought up on here before and what do you guys think of it?

I do definitely think the break up has to be Pre-Civil War as if Thor was living with Jane then the Avengers likely would've known where Thor was at the time. But the magazine's are the only thing that I believe gave us a month to work from giving us a nice May date which I think lines up a little too perfectly.

I admit I was offline for a lot of the Love and Thunder placement debate and I missed a lot of that so sorry if I'm throwing out things that were already brought up.

Yeah, the fact we've gotten more guesstimate type of comments recently from directors, makes me wonder just how aware those behind the scenes are of when exactly a project is taking place. I get the Groot thing, but given he's a fictional being, I don't think we can 100% confirm how his growth works.

I don't see that the breakup has to be before Civil War. Thor could have left to look for the stones while still being in a relationship with Jane where he returned to Earth and her less and less (maybe with the other Avengers not even being aware) which could have also been a factor in the breakup. I'm not saying it's as late as possible like right before Ragnarok, but I do feel like the girl telling Thor she was sorry Jane dumped him makes it sound like it was more recent rather than over 2 years prior.

I'm not arguing against a 2024 placement and unlike Moon Knight, I'm personally going back and forth on whether I believe Love & Thunder is May 2024 or May 2025. The reason I'm a little hesitant about a 2024 placement myself is how soon it is after Endgame, but doesn't really feel like it. I mean The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Shang-Chi, Far From Home, etc. still discussed or referenced the blip and you could feel they were still in the aftermath of it. Unlike stuff like Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk where you feel like enough time's passed that it's out of the zeitgeist and people have returned to normalcy. And while the video addresses it, seeing New Asgard in Endgame compared to Love & Thunder, there's clearly been a lot of work done. I just feel like it would take a lot to get it done within under 7 months. This is just me though and I can understand if others don't feel the same. I do see evidence for 2024 as well and haven't made a full decision on what I personally want to go with.

I just wish we had more concrete evidence. Hopefully, the Holiday Special and GOTG 3 make things more clear.

Also, I wish Disney/Marvel would address the reasoning behind their timeline given how divisive it's become with fans who actually focus on determining the timeline. I would like to think someone there is aware of some of the controversy behind some of their placements.

Very fair points especially on Groot and the Post-Endgame feel. I would definitely like Marvel to come forward with a little statement on wtf they are doing there tho.

I honestly don't think they have a clue. I think they have a role with the Disney + timeline but don't really use hard evidence. They say they have a timeline keeper and a scroll, so why not release it? Didn't Feige say at one point they were going to?

I still remember the mess after Homecoming's release. I used to get downvoted on Reddit all the time for explaining why 8 Years Later was wrong and why Avengers had to be in 2012. It was so validating when Infinity War confirmed it had been 6 years and even more so when Endgame flat-out showed the 2012 title card.

I don't recall them saying they were going to release the timeline scroll but fuck if they did I'd be stoked.

Also fuck reddit, after all these years it's just as bad on there when it comes to timelines even after all the fuck ups. Whenever anything timeline related goes there I keep my mouth shut and come here lol

It may not have been the scroll, but Feige did at one point say they had a timeline they were going to release to the public. I think it was meant to be in "The Story of Marvel Studios" book but when it was released, there was nothing about the timeline.
