Marvel Cinematic Universe News, Rumors, and Discussion

We could get Peyton Reed's F4 film and Doom done right. Galactus could be a phase bad guy too. Man, I hope this true.

Hopefully this is true. It would make perfect sense for all parties involved: obviously Marvel gets back the First Family and bring them to screen, whereas Fox gets to rid themselves of a property that they don't know what to do with while expanding on the television expansion of the universe they somewhat know what they're doing with (X-Men).

And it's a huge win for fans. First Spidey, then FF... they're all coming home!

FOX has already refuted the rumor. But that's all they're saying. No long press release or anything. We'll see. Sony also refuted making a deal with Marvel until it was announced. I wish that's the same case here.

You know they're doing something right when a freaking haircut get me excited

That is Ultimate Peter Parker!!

I'm about to go through his filmography to see if he can act. He 100% looks like Ultimate Peter and the fact that he has at least one stage credit has me very hopeful. I don't think I've been this excited for a movie since Spider-Man 1.

I honestly haven't seen him in anything, but I'm pretty confident in Marvel's casting (and let's be honest, Sony was probably riding shotgun in making that casting decision). While I was iffy about his physicality before, that pic has me completely convinced for now.

Weren't there rumors that they were butting heads over the casting?

There were at first. But that's kind of what I meant. I imagine the casting decision went something like this:

Feige: "So, I really like Tom Holland for Spider-Man..."

Sony: "Eh... we'd like to see someone cooler and edgier."

Feige: "Um... that doesn't really fit Peter Parker at all."

Sony: "But it's what the kids want! Also, maybe some neon lights on his costume...?"

Feige: "Wait, what? No. No neon lights."

Sony: "Fine! But not Holland. He just seems too nerdy."

Feige: *facepalm* "Look... you guys have an ok track record with casting Spider-Man. But I have a perfect track record casting just about every Marvel film character in the MCU. Plus, you cast Topher Grace as Venom. End of discussion."

Sony: "Fair enough."

But is it a movie or a show?

I think the rumors of it being turned into a movie airing on Netflix are likely untrue, as that would require reworking the existing contract (possible but difficult, especially in terms of budget sharing, etc). It would also either be the first non-theatrical MCU film, or it would be the first theatrical Netflix co-produced MCU film.

But again, I think it's unlikely. I think the rumors of them having trouble working on story and script and finding right actor are true, but are waaaaaay too early to be jumping to conclusions about it. It's not due out until probably April, 2017. Still year and a half away.

If we haven't heard some production/casting news by mid 2016, then there's validity to worry.

But I have a feeling after the success of the Daredevil series and buzz surrounding Jessica Jones, Daredevil Season 2, and Luke Cage will want Netflix to stick with a formula that works.

That said, I could see them deciding to do The Defenders as a film (or film series), co-produced by Netflix and Marvel Studios. That would make far more financial sense given the popularity (and hopefully continued popularity) of the Netflix MCU shows, and it has been stated by Feige himself that he'd be interested in doing a theatrical release if there was enough interest. If the remaining shows are that popular, it's a likely possibility, as are potential solo films focused on those characters as well.

It's a possibility, especially as Marvel/Feige have already shown they're willing to share production in a new way, like with the Spider-Man deal with Sony and the existing deal for the Netflix series.

Marvel seems interested in expanding their film output to 3, maybe even 4 films per year by the early 2020s (I think that may be overdoing it, but...). Sharing production costs while still retaining a large portion of the theatrical gross (probably 3/5 to 2/3 at least in such a contract due to brand licensing fees, etc) is a smart financial move, ensuring saving a decent amount on production costs while retaining a majority of the profits, even if only slightly.

Netflix has been looking into branching into theatrical film releases, and a co-production with Marvel of their successful series seems like a sure thing. The success of that would ensure Netflix could branch out and begin producing their own original films, or films based on licensed properties they currently own like Arrested Development, etc, where their profit share is much larger. All the while still co-producing likely box office gold films with Marvel based on the Defenders characters.

All just speculation anyway. :)

But I am pretty sure the Iron Fist series will happen, especially as we get closer to production timeline. Middle of next year we'll know more about it, at the very least a few casting announcements for lead/supporting roles.

Then the real thing. Every one of these movies makes me less interested in the universe. I can't be the only one I am aware but Iron man 2 + 3 sucked hard like worse than Spider-man 3 or ASM 2 , Add mistakes throughout like Thor is an alien , no black widow movie, hank pym has been screwed over as he had like 2 things been ant man and created Ultron. Movies he's not Ant Man and its tony who does it. Tease Thanos then drag it out, a really bad quicksilver + scarlet witch who felt in their just to be there.

I loved this universe at first but they have dragged stuff out and i think I'll stop at infinity war and skip most films before it maybe. The show of agents tied to it was bad. I feel this universe is a disappointment to me. Others will like and cool for them but I thinkI'll be done.

You have me with Thor, they need to soft reboot that franchise. I also agree with Thanos, but I've already discussed that.

1. Black Widow doesn't need nor deserves a movie. She's a bland character in the films, she's a bland character in the comics, and her origin already has been told in the MCU via Age of Ultron and Agent Carter. I don't know why anyone liked Black Widow.

2. Hank Pym is perfect, absolutely perfect and Cross was comic Ultron while the actual Ultron was an "accurate" Ultron as well. Ultron in the comics is based on Hank's mind to an extreme while Ultron is based on Tony's mind to an extreme. Is it good? No, but it's still an accurate representation of what Ultron is about. We also got Hank in the suit in a flashback, the entire movie is about Hank's legacy. To say he wasn't Ant-Man is factually incorrect.

3. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were perfect, the problem is that they were just given nothing to do and Whedon was upset they brought Coulson back and wanted to kill someone else off.

4. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is great.
