Avengers Invincible Iron Man discussion (Spoilers!)

Oh, man. Yeah. I just finished reading it. The final stroke in Stark's master plan was brilliant.

For those who haven't read it, spoilers.
The backup system he created for his mind was an archaic copy from before the Stamford disaster. So the superhuman registry is wiped clean and he can look objectively at the choices he made over the past few years without being chest-deep in making the tough decisions.
Awesome.
Interesting, I love it when they pull of master plans like that

You know, there are quite a few people calling this "Iron Man's One More Day." I can understand why they'd say that, but they're wrong. It's true we were denied Tony overcoming his flaws and hardships as an actual person, and that roughly a decade of comics no longer apply from his perspective. But the events themselves haven't been glossed over, he will have to deal with them, and the reasons behind Tony's "reboot" actually make sense, where Spider-Man's made none. I would have prefered to see some nice character development, but this isn't nearly as bad as they think.

Also, and this is really off-topic and I apoligize...I find the decision to give Brother Voodoo the title of Sorcerer Supreme baffling. Why do that if everyone will use Dr. Strange anyway? Who can bring back the dead even without his title. But I digress.

I don't know, I was always thought this arc was like Iron Man's "Batman RIP" - a character being broken down and having to pull the pieces back together again.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Invincible Iron Man was (and still is) a story about Tony Stark's redemption.

I just got caught up with this, and it was indeed awesome.

I would be interested to see a story somewhere down the line where all of the physical and mental modifications Tony has made on himself "catch up" to him. He's still got remnants of Extremis left in him (not the program but the modifications it made) and now he's reinstalled his mind...all of this can't come without consequences.

I love the idea that he has restored his mind to pre-Registration times. What an awesome concept. Can't wait to see how that fits in with all of the "redemption" stuff.

Heh. Dude needs to defragment his hard drive.

final MANDARIN tally: 117 manuscript pages for 68pp of comic. Carmine Di Giandomenico, you crazy angel, you have your work cut out for you.

Epic.

I really like this book but am not sure what to think about the ENTIRETY of the armor being stored in his bones along with the underarmor.

I have yet to understand why Mandarin is considered to be a good villain, let alone a good Iron Man villain.

Couldn't agree more. Altho, Claremont did a good job with him in the Acts of Vengeance crossover, Mandarin and the Hand vs Psylocke, Wolverine, Black Widow and Captain America.

What can Mandarin do that Doctor Doom can't? What story could you tell with Mandarin that you couldn't tell with Doctor Doom?

As far as I can tell, nothing. Doom has the magic element. Give him the ten rings. Iron Man is like Superman; he has one villain fans (and writers and editors) consider his archenemy, and that villain is overrated.
