Harry Potter Discussion (spoilers)

Why are the American editions so much longer than the Canadian/U.K. ones?

Do you semi-illiterate yanks need larger type or something?
Actually, I think that is the reason. They use slightly larger type, bigger pages, and they put chapter illustrations into the US editions. So you don't just need larger type, you need pictures too.

Pssh. Books are just for blind people who can't properly enjoy videogames, movies and comicbooks.

What I think they should have done was change the title (because its not unreasonable to think that ten and eleven year olds wouldn't want to read about the Philosopher's Stone, because only one in a million would have heard of it before), but keep it the Philosopher's Stone in the books, The title simply referring to one of the various sorcerors in the book who had possession of it (well... Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel, at least). But unfortunately, I do not have any metaphysical control over the past.

That would've been perfect.

I know this is movie news, but as of today, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe (who signed a few weeks ago) are now officially attached to Harry Potter 6 and 7, wheras just this Monday, there had been reports that Emma was seriously going to back out.

But Warner Bros. has all the power in the world over those kids. Muahaha!!

That was weird.

Anyway, I'm psyched. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yeah, It would have sucked if any of them left.

There's no way Warners wouldn't have moved heaven and Earth to get all the kids back. This isn't like Madame Hooch who they told to F off.

Who would do five movies and drop out of the last two anyway? Buncha jerks. If you can't commit to the role for freakin' life don't take it.

Look at Hugh Jackman. He's got a great career and he owes it all to Wolverine. And he knows it. He's embraced the character.

Then look at Kirsten Dunst.

If you dare!

Well her contract was up for renewal, not committing is what actors do when they want higher paychecks, its pretty standard as far as I know... The press just ran with it to sell papers or whatever gets them money these days.

Its just fairly well known that our Hermione doesn't want to be an actress (and fit for the role, apparently she's at the top of her class) after the movies, she wants to go on to Oxford or some silly place like that.

Have any of you seen this? - http://www.ewonline.net/videos/7/

It's pretty rediculous.

Doesn't it look almost as if Harry is HELPING Voldemort? Like, I don't sense any contention between them from this cover... Hmm...

I've been considering what the cover could REALLY mean...

I think it would be a really cool twist to have Snape be the actual villain, but he doesn't pack as powerful a bunch as we've seen Voldemort. Not only that, but the entire series has put stock in taking down Voldemort... Horcruxes, waging a war against the black arts, etc. If Snape were to all of a sudden become the main baddy, I gotta tell you - I would have mixed feelings about it.

What I am thinking, since he and Harry have a connection, that there is more to Voldemort than what we've seen of him... There is something huge still missing from his story, I think.

. . .

Snape killed Dumbledore. Voldemort couldn't. Hell, Voldemort couldn't even kill Harry in his duel with him in Year 4.

I think it'd be kind of neat, actually. Either Snape's the main villain or he redeems himself. I don't want him as a "second-in-command" to Voldemort. . .

That or he kills Voldemort, then Harry and Snape have a showdown.

But, to be honest, Snape will probably take the redemption route. As for Voldemort and Harry's connection. . .well, let's just say I can't wait.

I wasn't talking about power in that sense. Sorry.

What I meant to say was that Voldemort was a more convincing lead than Snape would be. If Snape pulled all of the strings throughout the series, and it was explained well enough after we pratically had history books about Voldemort's lineage and life before turning into the Dark Lord, I'd be VERY surprised.

And Voldemort has had plenty of defensive moves that have since prevented him from dying... Remember, despite the fact that he couldn't kill Dumbledore or Harry, he has remained alive because of what kind of power he has. I don't think we should underestimate him.

True enough.

I dunno. You'd think we'd be able to deduce this stuff with SIX PARTS OF SEVEN, but Jo is a crafty one. . .

Notice how the American cover is like a reversed version of the American cover for Sorceror's Stone? That's pretty cool.

In other news, word on the street is that the covers and design schemes for the British/Canadian editions of the HP books kick absolute *** compared to the boring, cartoony american ones. And by "word on the street" I mean "in my opinion". And by "in my opinion" I mean "in my correct opinion".
