Greg Lantern the Movie

Re: Green Lantern-the Movie

Looks good to me. The only thing I don't like is how bulky the ring is.

EDIT: upon a second watching, Blake Lively's acting is pretty atrocious too.

Oh well, I'm looking forward to the movie.

I still can't decide whether I like this or not. There are some aspects of this that look good and there are some that look really bad. Hal is a little too ... Van Wilder-ish, and Abin Sur did not look like I pictured him to be in the trailer.

Re: Green Lantern-the Movie

As far as trailers go this was pretty lame. It could drum up the excitement needed. In fact it was a really boring trailer. Some shots of the costume do look better, specially the ones showing Oa, It looks great when there's a clear distinction of Black and green. But that's undone with the green aura. And the muscle suit design still looks awful, I wouldn't mind the complexity if it were stylish. And the one girl's acting was horrible in the whole "you're late" shot.

Oh and a goofy roommate? Seriously?

No, that's Chris Nolan's mission with Batman.

So we accept that they're gonna make another goofy comic book movie. That will probably get bad reviews and further the decimation of comic book films. As a fan of the genre, I too, think it's time to give it up. I don't want to see anymore good superhero films unless it's Batman.

Okay, don't see it. I mean, this is a character who's known for creating things like giant boxing gloves and stuff. So if you strip all that away, and make it this ultra serious, no sense of wonder movie, then it's NOT a Green Lantern movie. Even through alll of the Blackest Night, the sense of wonder and imagination is there.

It's not about making the giant boxing gloves I'm talking about. It's not even about weird looking aliens. You've seen serious movies with crazy looking creatures and things. Is it too much to ask that filmmakers take things more serious and try to deliver on it? I just don't see why people are "satisfied" with comic book movies that look like they might just be just enjoyable when they could be epic. I know you've read story arcs with these characters that might have been so profoundly good on screen but instead they settle with cartoonish crap. And maybe I'm wrong. I judged the first Iron Man movie too harshly off the trailers. I just don't want to go to bat for a movie that's just going to make people say "So what?" because by the time it takes to make other heroes into movies or franchises. Studios are going to realize they won't make the cash that they used too because no one except one character (Batman) delivered. And they assume that it's because it's Batman and not because they're making **** goofy films.

Re: Green Lantern-the Movie

Trailer just doesn't excite me. I also think the CGI Lantern suits look pretty crappy. It's not the texturing, style or colour, but rather, they don't have the right weight. The shadows and the lightness of them is all off, and they move wrong. The animation is pretty poor.

Hope it turns out okay.

Re: Green Lantern-the Movie

It reminds me of a fan trailer.

Are you talking about the animation of the suit? Becuase that reads directly from a light suit Reynolds wears so it follow's reynold's movements precisely.

It reminds me of a fan trailer.
No the GL fan trailers I've seen were actually good and made me want to see a GL movie

God I can't get over how poor this trailer is, just poorly put together

I liked it.

So what if it's not serious, does everything need to be doom and gloom for you people?

I don't mind a fun movie, though the GL mythology seems like it should be a bit more serious than this.

Re: Green Lantern-the Movie

I'm all for filmmakers taking these projects seriously, but there's such a thing as taking them too seriously. If they'd released a trailer like that fan-trailer with Nathan Fillion, it would alienate casual audiences who don't know anything about Green Lantern. People want to know that this is an easygoing, accessible movie rather than a laboured science fiction epic.

I also don't really get what was so goofy about it. Yes, Hal cracks a couple of jokes and has a goofy roommate, but was the brief half-a-second shot of Oa or the shots of Jordan flying really as "cartoony" as everyone is saying?

So yeah, I liked it. Looking forward to it.

I also think there's a good chance that the movie will be nothing like the trailer. Reynolds said that the movie "is not a laboured origin movie" and yet the trailer is very much a trailer for a laboured origin movie. We'll have to wait and see. I really doubt Martin "GoldenEye Zorro Casino Royale" Campbell will let us down on this one.

Re: Green Lantern-the Movie

Gl mythology is all about exploration and mysticism, not serious business.

That is a bit true but I think and intergalactic police force should be a little more serious. Either way I saw none of that exploration or mysticism in that trailer to make me like this movie in the trailer

It just seems like the scale of goofy and drama are tip too far to one side because of Reynold acting niche. You can be goofy but it feels like no one involved is taking the project it self seriously. Though this is all based on that one trailer.
