Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer discussion (spoilers!)

I'm a huge reader of Orson Scott Card Reviews Everything, because he has good taste in books and, often, movies.

His negative review of FF2, for example.

However, I can't take him seriously anymore, after his attempt to pass this off as fact:
But let me tell you the good things. As comics fans know, the stupidest superhero ever brought out by a major comics publisher was the Silver Surfer. It was an obvious case of pandering, like the icky skateboarding in Hook -- designed to capitalize on a youth fad.

From what I understand, Silver Surfer was given a surf board because Kirby didn't want to draw yet another space ship.

I thought he just wanted to hang ten on the rings of URANUS!

I hate it when people hate on things that dont really matter, so what if its to grab the skate board audience? Still a cool concept and made for a good story

Yeah , Plus isn't that kind of the point of any media? to change and adapt current trends , styles , fads ect..... Look at how many movies have Ipods or tv shows have games consoles.

It's not "designed to capitalize on a youth fad" it's about keeping with the times and updating to each era. In a few years time say Jetpacks are around all the fad I bet they feature in comics , tv shows , movies , game (i know they already are in some stuff I mean more so)

Useless Fact Time!

In Japan the movie is known as Fantastic Four: Ginga No Kiki
which means something like Fantastic Four: Crisis Of The Milky Way(Galaxy?)

Sure it's galaxy and not the chocolate of milky way

maybe the fantastic four are upset because their local newsagent has ran out of them

EXCLUSIVE! My "Footloose!" director (Chris Evans' brother-in-law) and choreographer (Chris Evans' brother) both told me that over Christmas break, Chris told them that he was told there won't be a Fantastic Four 3, even though they all had three-picture contracts.

I'm okay with that. :)
