Dragonball Evolution

Re: Dragon Ball movie

So you're going to like it just because everyone else hates it? Are you that desperate to be noticed?

Yeah, yeah, I'm that desperate for attention. You know, as opposed to everyone else in this thread who have NOTHING but negativity for the film ("this is gonna suck", "he shouldn't be white", "that hairstyle looks terrible"), have already written it off as a failure/bad Power Rangers episode, declared again and again that they have no intention of seeing this film, yet continue to keep posting. Christ, shame on me and my thirst for the lime-light.

I like Dragonball. When I was little, I had the pleasure of watching it every Saturday morning in unedited, un-subtitled Japanese. It's just one of those fun, candy-floss memories I hold dear. Now they're making a movie based on it. Does it look like the best movie? No? Does it look like it'll be incredibly cheesy? Yes. Do I still want to see it? Yes. Do I think it has a very good chance of being entertaining? YES.

Picking on this film is like making fun of a kid who stutters or that poor bastard in a wheelchair still trying to participate in gym class. Asinine, sophomoric, and, really in a lot of ways, mean. Yeah, we get it. You think it's stupid, you think it's gonna suck, you think we're stupid. Cool. How about from now on you just pass notes back and forth in PM and let us live our sad little existence that includes a hope for this film.

I also didn't vote for Bush, but that wouldn't stop me from *****ing about him, and why should it?

Not sure if any of that was directed at me, since I have viewed and posted negatively of the film. I did make one or two positive comments on it as well, somewhere in this thread.

By all means, thats fine. I just figured as a fan you'd like to see it given a bit more respect by the filmmakers. It seems to be (just my opinion, mind you), they're treating it with about the same level of respect as one of those terrible Power Rangers episodes that keeps being mentioned. It might not look as bad in terms of quality, but thats surely only because of a higher budget.

Dude, the fact you'd compare making fun of a film to ridiculing a handicapped person is the only asinine thing in this thread.

Yeah, we get it. You think it's stupid, you think it's gonna suck, you think we're stupid. Cool.

Don't put words in peoples' mouths. No one in this thread made the statement they thought people who were interested in the movie were stupid. Just that the movie itself looks stupid. Get over yourself and start actually reading people's posts instead of making assumptions on a general consensus.

How about from now on you just pass notes back and forth in PM and let us live our sad little existence that includes a hope for this film.

Why don't you wipe the sand out of your vagina and relax. Why not realize that a lot of the criticism fans level at the film is directly related to the apparent disrespect for the source material by people behind this film.

Sure, translating things to the big-screen often involve making (sometimes) drastic changes. Thats fine. Making said translation half-assed and treating it almost completely as a joke is unforgivable. And honestly, if you doubt that assessment, go back and take a look at some of the stills released for this movie.

You know, I probably should respond to all of this like I normally would, reasonably, rationally, but, I'm out of medication and really just don't care anymore. Thanks buddy, thanks. Thanks for taking a post which was obviously a joke and just really kicking at the balls. Yeah, you know what, I am that desperate to be noticed. Oh, do you want to know why? Depression. The medicated kind. The kind I've been fighting off and on for years. Yeah, hey, notice me! I've got a heart on my sleeve and it's bleeding! I used to visit this site because it made me feel, I don't know, OK with myself. Not special, not revered or anything like that, but, I could come here and feel like I at least mattered or belonged, like this was a place I was welcomed. That feeling's gone away now. It's been dying for a long time, but I just kept trying to keep a hold on it. No more though. I guess I should thank you for finally making me fully accept it.

To any admin, if it would be possible to delete my account, I would like you to. To anybody that would still like to correspond with me, feel free to do so, I know marvelman has my IM and email address.

The best to everyone,

Entropy

I think everyone just needs to calm down. It's a Dragon Ball movie.

I realize it was a joke, I was joking back with the "desperate to be noticed" thing. I wasn't trying to be a dick, I was messing around. Unfortunately, you took it seriously and personally (why I don't know). Take a deep breath and relax.

Wow. Seriously man, if you're that depressed, looking for a ray of light on a message board doesn't seem like the best way to go about it. I speak from experience, I was diagnosed as a manic depressive when I was 21 (after being Baker Acted when I assaulted two police officers in a state of hysterics). I'm lucky I didn't end up going to jail for it, but the psych ward isn't much better (in a lot of cases its worse).

I've tried medication too (four different types), but they never worked for me. It was the equivalent of having a cup of coffee in the morning. I decided coffee was cheaper than the prescriptions a couple years ago and have been med-free since then. Some might view that as irresponsible, but the truth is, I learned to deal with it on my own without the meds. It was not an easy thing to do, and I still have terrible days, but I work through it BY KEEPING A SENSE OF HUMOR! That in itself is near impossible to do when people like us are at our worst, but it CAN be done. Besides, people are more likely to commit suicide on the meds than off of them.

Come on, Entropy, this is so overboard its not even funny. When you calm down some, I hope you can realize we were both joking and you took it wrong. We both got defensive, end of story. Lets leave it at that and move on.

I think everyone just needs to calm down. It's a Dragon Ball movie.

Agreed.

I got that his first post was a joke...:sure:

I did too. Was my response also not as obvious as a joke? I really wasn't trying to be a dick or anything (well, not in that first response). Maybe I should've used a winky smiley or something? I don't know, this is ridiculous.

Chatwin Goku still looks like a bad cosplayer/star of a D-list, supremely bad HK martial arts movie.

I think he looks pretty cool. Of course this

Is probably the best picture of him in costume

Seen it, still looks like a bad cosplayer.

Seriously the production values look as good as the Street Fighter movie.

I'm beginning to think you think all of this is "cool" regardless of what comes down the pike.

Not true. I didn't think it was cool when the realse date was changed from 2008 to 2009. But the rest ..... yep. So far it's looking like it could be great.

As for you saying
still looks like a bad cosplayer
if he hadn't worn the Goku outfit then let's face it people would be pretty pissed. It's like if they did superman movie but superman had no cape or big S or even underwear over his pants. People would be pissed.

During the movie it could match up. They said they had a big budget so On screen in the context of the film it could look awesome. I don't think fox wants to treat this like the horrible street fighter movie as this has the possibility of been a huge franchise, even saying they are working on sequel now (rumoured to be the saiyan saga)

But with what dragon ball is you have to expect campy/comical bits. The costumes to me look a cross between campy and superhero (what the movie costumes look like) which to me shows this has promise and I'm hoping it's great. If I think it sucks I'll be disappointed but I'll admit it.

Re: Dragon Ball movie

I just don't like the guy who was cast as Goku. Goku wasn't a pretty boy/former model looking guy. He should be a tougher and more world weary type (even in his younger days since he's been fighting major battles since he was a kid). Its going to be hard for me to accept this dude in the role (and unfortunately I don't think I'll be pleasantly surprised like I was with Ledger as Joker).

Yes he was. They even comment on his youthful looks in the series. He was meant to be good looking in a "I don't know it" type of way. It adds to his little boy aspect. Ironically the guy playing him looks to serious and too mature (That's why I cast Brendan Fraser in that anime/manga dream movie round) but I think that could work

That's not what I am saying, I am saying he looks stupid, maybe the costume could work, but not on him.

Catwoman had a big budget and it still looked like crap.

That's a hard balance to strike and I don't think they are striking it.

Re: Dragon Ball movie

Catwoman had a big budget and it still looked like crap.

Actually I disagree on this. I think catwoman looked great. It was the story , acting and dialogue that let that down.

Re: Dragon Ball movie

You all just hate the notion of a Dragon Ball movie simply because a) It's Dragon Ball, and like, Dragon Ball sucks and b) Mole likes it.

And I say that as someone who absolutely hates Dragon Ball AND tends to dislike most things Mole likes.

So quit the hatin yo.

That's the perfect way to describe it. The cosplayer part. But I guess we shouldn't judge this until the trailer comes out. When the **** is the trailer coming out?

You say that like it's not a valid rationale.
