DC Extended Universe / DC Universe - Timeline

Sounds like he's not shutting it down entirely but sort of distancing himself because he's only interested in his own stories right now. If it happens, it happens, but he was more like "oh, uh... I don't know about that" than a "I think it's possible, we'll see where it goes." Obviously both leave the possibility open but I get the impression that it's less likely than not going to happen. It'd be interesting if Pattinson fought Doctor Phosphorus before The Batman though lol.
"It really comes down to whether it makes sense."

Sounds like they are still discussing. This guy is all for it.

I'm keeping hopeful they remain separate. I'd much rather Reeves keeps his more grounded take, while Gunn has a more outlandish and cartoony one. I just don't like the idea of shoving something that was clearly meant to be its own thing into the DCU.

Why not both? Reeves can handle the street level, stand-alone "Crime Saga" movies and then when Batman shows up in the crossovers, he's directed by someone else. The DCAU, DCAMU and Tomorroverse did this well already.

The fact that Reeves created his universe to be separate is honestly enough for me. Watching the movie you feel like this isn't some grand world with various metahumans running around and I feel it should stay that way. Especially since Gunn has already announced his separate Batman. I mean it gives the best of both worlds, so I personally don't see the need to force Pattinson into the DCU. When Gunn can have a clean slate on what he wants for his version of Batman, Gotham, Rogues, etc.

Eh I just watched it again recently and didn't feel that at all. When you watch the early episodes of BTAS, they are very grounded and then slowly more and more fantastical elements arrive. The DCAU Batman goes from fighting the Sewer King to dodging Darkseids omega beam years later. I love that character evolution and want to see it in LA.

Gunn can do something similar without bringing in the Reeves stuff. I just think from a creative standpoint it's best to keep both separate, but agree to disagree.

I have pros and cons for both situations... but the "grounded" opinion doesn't hold up in my opinion. There are no grounded universes, nor grounded characters. grounded stories exist, and those who tell these stories decide to emphasize the grounded elements. if someone wants to tell a story with the same characters in a different way they can do it without running into inconsistencies of any kind. if you want to see Reeves' vision as separate, you can do it... it's headcanon

Right now it isn't headcanon though. Until they hypothetically announce that Gunn has canceled his Batman and they're using Reeves they are in fact separate universes. If that were to happen I wouldn't think it's the best decision but I'd accept it.

mine was a thread-specific example. The point is that the only thing grounded in a project is that single story and even more directly the voice of those who tell the story

It should be separate if the people making it want it to be separate. I also never liked the "grounded" reasoning, because Gunn has made it clear the DCU can incorporate many different visions, tones and styles. I think it actually works well to have a grounded Batman that is also a fantastical Batman. I think those tones should change in the same universe. That's just a more realistic, believable, lived-in superhero universe to me. For example, Daredevil makes the MCU feel like a proper universe because we've got gritty street crime occurring at the same time as cosmic aliens on quests for domination.

I don't mind this. I feel that they want an older Batman to fit Robin in for Teen Titans and such, though. We'll see.

Like, as someone on the definitively "not gonna be DCU" side, I do like the idea that you could go from The Penguin to Creature Commandos and it be the same universe. They're very different and thus it makes it truly feel like DC to me. I'm sure that the DCU Batman will still work the same way though and it's still a win anyway.

Yea the divide on this topic is crazy rn. Feels like politics!

I just prefer projects that were made to be separate stay that way. Now if Reeves and Gunn come out and confirm they're in fact moving his stuff to the DCU, that's a different story. At this current time though, I'd prefer to see Gunn's take from the beginning. This isn't like Daredevil where they went in with the mindset that the story is already a part of this connected universe.

I don't mind that either, I'm just using Daredevil as an example.
