Captain America Vol. 5 by Ed Brubaker discussion (SPOILERS!)

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

I'm really pumped that the Omnibus for this is coming out. I can finally get to own this run by Bru. Anyone else getting the Omnibus (#1-25, Winter Soldier Special and another One-shot.)

Haven't decided yet. I'm thinking about it.

the other one-shot is the 65th anniversary special it's pretty good

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

#31 was intense. I like Dr. Faustus.

I predict that Bucky kills him, and then frees Sharon.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

In the past few weeks I picked up the first 4 trades of this series and I have to say... meh. Not that great.

Don't get me wrong, it's good. Well written. The art is very nice. But after 21 issues Brubaker hasn't resolved anything. He just has Cap run around stopping terrorist threats and breaking into Kronos and A.I.M. hideouts while he piles more and more loose plot threads on top of what he already had. Don't get me wrong I enjoy complex stories, but it seems like Bru is just seeing how long he can go without resolving even the smallest plots. I shoudn't be surprised, this is his MO. Rise and Fall was 12 issues and it took 4 trades to tell 2 arcs here. Still it's irksome and my patience is wearing thin. I get that he's trying to establish the grandiose nature of the Skull's plans, but it honestly feels like this same story could have been told in 12 issues rather than 21. And Cap is starting to look like an idiot.

Resolve something. Anything. Please.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

I did pick up the Omnibus and have read the first 13 issues...and I love it.

I mentioned this before, but I gave up on it after the first 3 or 4 issues, then I tried again after the first TPB came out, but it just didn't hold my interest. It wasn't bad, just not my thing.

After that I read what happened with Bucky/Winter Soldier, and I was extremely apprehensive. As much as I like Brubaker....I HATE return stories, especially of long-dead characters. But it was very well done, and didn't seem "cheap".

I'm very glad I picked this up.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

I finally finished the Omnibus, read the Death of Captain America PHC, and the two latest issues. I'm all caught up.

This is a great book - better than I gave it credit for and better than everything they're doing right now except maybe Daredevil and Punisher MAX, and it's at least as good as those.

What Brubaker is doing with Sharon Carter is awesome -- pregnant?! With Steve's kid?!?! Whoa!

That just may have hooked me into getting the Omnibus.

That particular part is not in the omnibus, it's in the Death of Captain America Premiere HC. Issue #30.

But everything in the Omnibus leads up to it and is a great read.

And it had better be Bucky that becomes the new Cap, or I'm going to be pissed.

It sure would make the most sense, and it seems the natural evolution of his character, but honestly, Bru could make Stiltman the new Cap and it would be a damned riveting read.

Preview of issue 33.

The arm thing is just ridiculous enough to actually be cool.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

Now I don't think it could even be Bucky.

9/10 times it's never anyone who Marvel puts in those kind of things. And the track record for the last few years has always been no one from what was shown.
