Bruce Timm Universe Adoration Thread

I don't rate them very highly. It doesn't have the electricity and the excitement of BTAS; the designs and the characters are all regrettably dull.

The only good thing to come out of STAS was Lex Luthor.

SO I should pass on getting them in DVD then.

I was going to get BTAS first, then Batman Beyond. I'll stick to that I guess.

Here's the order I plan on getting them:

BTAS (I already have Season One and Two, 3&4 are on the way)

JL+JLU (I'll probably get these in the Summer)

Batman Beyond (Not 100% sure if I'm getting these)

STAS (If these drop dramatically in price and I'm in a real Superman mood, I might get these)

I got 'em all. And at good prices via The UC Store.

To be honest---I watch the Superman/JL-centered ones more than I do the Batman DVDs. And if I do watch the Batman series it's either the last 2 seasons of Batman or Batman Beyond.

I like STAS. If you're a Superman fan, I'd definitely say it's worth getting. Here's how I'd rate the series, Houde:

1) JL/JLU
2) BTAS
3) STAS
4) TNBA

(never saw much of Batman Beyond)

If you've never seen it, then yeah, it's worth getting. If, like me, you watched them every Saturday and know that they're boring and forgettable and have none of the Superman-charm that the movies or Lois & Clark or even the Fleischer cartoons, you'll know that they should be at the bottom of your list in terms of which DVD sets you're going to buy first.

Plus, they constantly try to make Superman trendier and more accessible, so they power him down to the point where he's essentially a Super*****. There's at least one episode where he gets his *** handed to him by a friggin' machine gun. Not cool.

...I was gonna' say.

I can only agree in the not-hotness.

Aw, thanks guys! It's awesome to know my taste in women apparently sucks. Then again, though, I'm no prize either. :p

On topic, though, I've got to disagree with the anti-Superman TAS sentiment. I've gotten through the first season and half way through the second and I think it's pretty good. Not as good as Bats or JLU, but good enough to check out.

It's definitely watchable and it's still great fun, but it doesn't have anything near the heart that BTAS and JLU had.

But then, I just hate the DCAU Superman. Superman should always be a big, gushy, friendly, somewhat naive boy-scout. In the DCAU, he's quiet and reserved and by the time JLU comes along, he's disillusioned with humanity and all this crap...I just didn't buy it.

BTAS is masterful, in my opinion. It was also pretty much the first of it's kind as a western animated drama. JLU pretty much took anything they messed up in the other DCAU series and fixed it.

As far as Superman's personality goes, I liked it better. It was more real. I've always hated the friendly boy scout persona often used in comics. There isn't one adult out there who is like that and, despite his alien origin, Superman was raised as a human. It made sense that a small time guy from the country would be naive, quiet and reserved. It also made a lot of sense that he would become disillusioned with humanity after seeing everything he had seen. It was a natural progression of the character.

Planet-Man, I loved Batman Beyond. You should give it a watch

Agreed , While not my favourite timmverse series it was still a very very well done show with great concepts and charracters that worked well , plus seeing aged bruce was great

Oh, I fully intend to give the whole series a DVD run someday. I was just never that aware of it when it was on, and since the DVDs have been coming out I've been preoccupied collecting the many seasons of the other shows. Having finally gotten the complete Justice League Unlimited for Christmas, Batman Beyond will be my next foray into the DCAU.

*puffs pipe*

Also, my LCS guy says BB's Old Bruce Wayne is his favourite Bruce Wayne ever, and his second-favourite is Kingdom Come's Old Bruce Wayne.

The latter is easily MY favourite Bruce Wayne ever, so I have high hopes.

Yeah I have to agree that the BB Batman is much cooler and believable.

I love the Batman Beyond Batman for one reason and one reason only:

Terry McGinnis: How did you know you weren't hearing voices?

Bruce Wayne: Well, for one, I'm not psychotic.

Terry McGinnis: Well, I hope your other answer's more convincing.

Bruce Wayne: Second, The voice kept calling me Bruce. That's not what I call myself.

0WNED!

I'm also gonna have to agree. This is Bruce "The God**** Batman" Wayne x eleventyseventybajillion. It's JLU-era Batman cranked up to 11! No more of that secret stalker Batman from the early Timmverse. This is "I've Stopped More Alien Invasions and Dodged More Omega Beams Than Maryland's Got Crabs" Batman.

You know it bubbah!

Batman Beyond was the best. Even my 8th grade math teacher watched it all the time.

Of course, he went to prison later for being with 5 underaged girls, but that's neither here or there. :p

Thankfully they deleted the rest of that scene.

Terry McGinnis: What do you call yourself?

Bruce Wayne: It's not important.

Terry McGinnis: You call yourself 'Not Important'?

Bruce Wayne: ... No. You don't need to know what I call myself.

Terry McGinnis: Oh come on, what is it?

Bruce Wayne: *sighs* god...

Terry McGinnis: You call yourself "God"?! You ARE psychotic!

Bruce Wayne: No.

Terry McGinnis: I mean - DAMN. You're one crazy old dude.

Bruce Wayne: NO!

Terry McGinnis: I mean, you're still kinda shway, but... I mean. Come on. "God" is a bit much...

Bruce Wayne: I CALL MYSELF MISTER FLUFFY BUNNY!

*awkward silence*

Terry McGinnis: Dude, I think that Shriek guy knocked out my uh... ears. I like, totally didn't hear what you said that so it's probably best if we never mention it again kay then bye.

Considering it's the one DCAU programme that runs completely off of its own steam (that is to say, it's not directly based on any character already established in the standard DCU) it's extremely good. Also, it's easily the darkest DCAU show of them all. Batman actually kills Mr. Fisk (I think that's his name) in the first episode.
