24- The Bauer Power Hour series discussion (spoilers)

They wouldn't even have to have such a long break. They already had about 8 episodes filmed by the time the strike went down. And they're filming the rest now. They could've easily had done the show with one break, breaking up the season in "two parts", showing 12 eps. before the break and 12 after. It's not like when they first began where they would have breaks every other week or anything like that.

Yes, but merely by breaking up the Season, the latter half of the season will have a vastly reduced number of viewers. I did mention that. You keep forgetting this is a business...there are reasons WHY they aren't taking the approach of splitting it up. And when exactly would they show the first and second halves? Start the first now, air 12 episodes (which would run into June and the studios just DO NOT air new Prime-time shows during the summer months...its a ratings disaster), and air the second half when? Also during the summer? Or Fall? And then have the next season start almost immediately on its heels? The timing just doesn't work to air the episodes now, all at once or broken into two halves. Business-wise, it'd be a terrible decision on Fox's part, and they're aware of that, hence keeping it airing together early next year.

Think about the other parts of the equation and it becomes clear why they're doing it the way they are.

Every show's ratings goes up and down throughout the season, so using that excuse is moot. With or without breaks, the ratings always scatter around. This isn't anything about a business. They said themselves they're waiting because they said they want to show the fans the whole thing, not anything about ratings and business.

I'm excited for the prequel movie. It'll serve as a good barometer as to whether the writers have gotten their stuff together after last year's cluster**** of a show.

Months late, but its been awhile since I came across this thread:

Ice, you're out of your mind. Its ALL about business. The studios won't make a move unless they think it will result in as much profit as possible, equated to as much viewership as possible.

And the ratings don't generally go up and down throughout the season. For the most part, they start strong with preimeres and generally lose viewership throughout the rest of the season (people losing interest, etc). The finale occasionally ratches up extra numbers, but the viewership consistently goes down throughout a season. To minimize that, they're airing it all consecutively, instead of splitting it up with months between, where MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more viewership is lost in the interim.

Despite what lip service the studios give the fans, it has nothing to do with giving the fans what they want (even if they say it does), and everything to do with pleasing studio execs, the accountants, and the advertisers. Airing the seventh season all in one go does all those things. Splitting it up into segments does the opposite of all those things.

Sweet! A few nice info tidbits in there. Looking forward to it.

Too bad no one cares anymore. Yawn. :)

I love that Robert Carlyle is starring in it. Love that guy!

The trailer has me pumped. 24 always ends up being so much more suspenseful, fun, and interesting than I think it'll be before getting into each season. This movie looks like it'll live up to that and more.

Its about time Jack ****ing Bauer was back on the ****ing TV screen. ****!

I mean sure Season6 gave us Bauer biting a man in the juggular. But Season5 gave us Jack Vs. Robocop........and he shot her in the leg.

Bauer *****!

I hope Bauer shoots Jon Voight in the *** in this season. That'd be awesome! Maybe even a *****-slap across the face of the new female President. Oh, Jack, you brazen bastard.
