Stryker could meet the Nigerian crime boss prior, Stryker wanted to create a special metal to use in military purposes (which leads to Adamantium), so he meet this crime boss to negociate a mineral to him, then Stryker see the rock in crime boss desk, causing interest on him, he wanted the rock, the crime boss refuse to give him, so he returns there with Team X, leading him to discover the source in Africa. The "Vibranium" meteorite crash before 1973 (I use 1973-1979 setting to Origins).
In Revised Timeline could happened similar, but without Team X.
