Stupid me. I forget too easily. You're right. Thank you.

good to hear you getting on the x-factor band wagon and i don't think the trade is out yet but i could be wrong
Trade's not out yet. The first arc's not done. Try Madrox though. I guess it lays the groundwork. I haven't picked it up though. E plugged it though. I don't think he reads this series however :?

More previews with no dialogue from Marvel.com

You want more? How about a special guest appearance by the Astonishing X-Men? And how will X-Factor react upon learning the secret that Cyclops, Beast, Colossus, Kitty Pryde, and Wolverine have kept from them?

Quicksilver has resurfaced in Mutant Town offering former mutants the chance to regain their powers, but what happens when he gives the same offer to the depowered Rictor? Will he accept and if he does, what price will he have to pay?

X-Factor #9 Civil war and HoM

We start with the team ready to hand Quicksilver his ***. A lot of tension and a lot of arguing. He also brings up Civil War. Quicksilver tells Guido (whose holding him by the neck) that he doesn't know what will happen if he uses his new terrigan mist powers on an already powered being. They turn to Jaime and ask what to do about Quicksilver and what X-Factor's stance is on Civil War.

Jaime walks out and confronts Layla on the front stoop. Layla tells him to go the corner of such and such and to buy a scarf and hat. Jaime's obviously fed up with her but knows it's better to keep her around. She says they'll be arguing forever because they're gonna get married. (joke?)

Jaime's walking along with hat and scarf when Aegis runs by. He's being chased by capekillers. Jaime runs with him and they talk the usual CW talk about how heroes are being treated like terrorists when all they're doing is helping. Jaime dupes up big and helps Aegis escape.

Quicksilver is setting up his own place. The X-Men come to take him away but X-Factor appear and argue with them. X-Factor's pissed Cyclops and the others hid the truth about the decimation from them. They offer sanctuary within Mutant Town to heroes and Quicksilver (even though they don't like him)

The final panel has Rahne asking Jaime if this was a wise decision.

From SDCC:

  • In responding to a fan asking about the characters who were spotlighted in Generation M, Quesada said that some of them will be showing up in X-Factor, and there are discussions about a new project that will include them.

new issue:

very good, as usual, but the end threw me for a loop.

spoiler for all:

so it opens with a flashback of Damian Trypp's past. It's the preview, and doesn't make much sense to me. His secretary notes that an employee didn't come into work that day, and Trypp says to call a Mr. C to dispatch of him. Cut to this dude's house, and he knows Trypp will come after him, so he decides to seek help from Madrox.

Jamie wakes up, after a long night of drinking. Drinking because he was depressed about ruining all of his friendships and connections by his stance in Civil War. He tries to get into the bathroom, and out comes a dupe. A sexy dupe, commenting on how he has to return to his job as farmer (ploughing the ladies, ooooooh! ...that wasn't the line in the book). Annoyed, Jamie absorbs him. Theresa comes out, Jamie realizes what happened before she kisses him, noting how fantastique he was in the sack (another reason why Madrox is close to replacing Iceman as my favorite X-man). She goes into the bathroom, assuming they are dating. She goes into the bathroom.

Then Monet comes out, in similar half-clothes, and kisses Jamie as well. She says she knows why they call him Multiple Man, and says that they're going to be having a lot more sex. Jamie is now kind of nervous, understandably. He goes down the stairs, thinking, and passes Layla Miller. She knows stuff. "Dead man walking," she says. And that the downstairs bathroom is open. Jamie is about to ask her a hilarious question, but she cuts him off, and says that she is saving herself for their wedding night.

The ex-Singularity Employee runs into Guido in the street, commenting how some people are trying to kill him. Guido is incredulous, until he sees that a passing car has a bazooka pointing out the window. Guido jokes, covers guy, gets shot.

X-factor, hearing the X-plosion, rush outside. Both Guido and the guy are fine. Back inside, Layla comments on how he had no idea that the guy was gonna get shot at. For some reason, she doesn't know whats going to happen to Guido. "Weird, huh?" Theresa notes not as weird as Layla. The guy reveals that he was working, essentially, on remaking the Legacy Virus for Singularity. (he doesn't call it by name, and it is shown that he doesn't know what the Legacy Virus was) Jamie, having died from the Legacy Virus, loses it, and almost beats the guy up. He stops himself, and has Guido escort the man to the guy's bank, where he has stored evidence. Jamie notes how this just fell into their laps: the one way to take down S.I.

Rictor, meanwhile, has not been showed. As he is at Pietro's office. Rictor shows that he knows that Pietro's process hasn't exactly helped people. Quicksilver states that it is his destiny to make the mutant race strong again. According to him, as mutants proliferated, they became weaker, powerwise. Everytime he tries to give ones power back, it tests if that person was worth the power. If the person is worth it (at this point, though, who has been?), they will get their own powers back. Rictor asks if he will be judged. Pietro says "You tell me." Rictor looks incredulous, but is clearly thinking about it.

Guido is driving the car to the bank with that guy. He gets a call, acknoledges a change in plan... THEN KILLS THE GUY! WITH HIS GIANT FISTS! He's Mr. Carosella.

Great story, art was killer. Favorite artist after Sook, who will never return... sigh.

Good issue. The part with Jaime waking up and Syrin/M and then ending on Layla was hilarious.

Wonder what all of that with Guido was about? I like Singularity as a villain but I can't wait to rip this open and get it over with.

4.5/5

Art's good too.

I first thought that he is a double-agent, but Madrox has shown no signs of thinking of that, as the book shows his thoughts. A Singularity-inside-dupe, perhaps?

I'm leaning towards Strong-Guy is a paid thug, and is acting like it. Money is good to him.

The brainwashing thing is kind've lame.

The rest of the issue was interesting but not as good as the rest of the series. Tryp goes over the revolution and origins on mutants and the reason why the X-Gene doesn't activate until adolecsents as it's some form of evolutionary survival tactic.

Like I said interesting.

But that also means that certain mutants aren't mutants but still "cropkillers" (as deemed from the superstitious town folk of the past) or mutants whose genes are active upon birth (sound familiar?) Madrox.

It seems that Damian Tryp also has had some association with Madrox in the past.

Rahne discovers Guido, who told them Buchannan disappeared while he was waiting at the bank, has Buchannan's blood on his hands. Before they know why Guido did it, they attack and he counter attacks. There's a fight but Quicksilver appears and tests his use of the terrigan mists on powered mutants on Guido to defeat him. He leaves announcing Rictor is under his care now.

Damian goes and visits Buchannan's wife before she can leave as her husband requested. :?

When X-Factor discovers what Singularity has done to Guido they fake a bomb scare that prevents Damien to get back into his building. They sneak into Buchannan's office only to discover the wizard like guy greeting them. He sincerely introduces himself as the Damien Tryp and asks them to make themselves at home.

I hope X-Factor and Quicksilver make an appearence in the main Civil War title.
The only problem with this issue was that guy saying that Jaime is not a mutant.

I thought that was the most interesting part. I honestly didn't mind the brainwashing stuff with Guido, I like him and I'd hate to see him become a real traitor. But Madrox not being a mutant really threw me for a loop, and I have to say, it's a twist that I rather like. Anyone else think the Tryp's are all the same person, a la Madrox and his dupes?

X-Factor is introduced to the future via The Eldest Tryp Self. He shows them a future X-Factor force who are trying to defeat a still alive eldest Tryp.

Tryp explains that X-Factor Investigation somehow manages to put mutants back on the map where the X-Men do nothing and become less popular. This also leads to a power struggle between superpowered individuals since homosapiens become extinct causeing a violent future.

Meanwhile Layla Miller orders pizza and calls for a fenceclipper...

Jamie and M fight Tryp but get defeated. Jamie accidently makes a dupe on impact... a scared one who runs away.

Rictor and Syrin find files about the virus Tryp wants to unleash that will kill former mutants. They also find Tryp's arsenal.

The other generation Tryp's enter the building to stop X-Factor once and for all.

Eldest Tryp reveals that Buchannon's wife is being held hostage and is being transported to a secure location.

The white van transporting the hostage is held up because of a traffic jam caused by two pizza delivery cars colliding. The rear of the van has been broken into and the hostage gone. A big fence clipper's all that's left.

Syrin and Rictor go to warn Jamie but are stopped by the Tryp's, who revealed they were responsible for Syrin's abductions and beat down. They're defeated and X-Factor escapes the building. Deciding to save Buchannan rather than fight.

The younger generation Tryp's meet with Jamie's dupe in the arsenal room. He's not really the wussy dupe. He's the unpredictable one from the beginning of the series. The building blows up. Jamie remembers how Tryp visited him as a child and killed his parents.

Layla sits with Buchannan's wife whose freaking out. Layla tells her she's in shock and happily goes to get her a glass of milk. Out of the shadows comes the eldest Tryp... who explains that it wasn't Rictor's joining that threw them off but it was her. He warns her that their paths will cross again.

Holy hell.

That was the best single issue I've read in a loooong time. In one of the best series' today too.

As far as I'm concerned, all that House of M crap was COMPLETELY worth it, just to get this golden diamond of a comic out of it.

'I'm the X Fac... *klik*

Can't wait for the therapy issue. Doc Samson. Oh yeah.

So since the other X books suck I thought I'd give this title a shot since I've been hearing rave reviews about it.

So where should I begin?
