What Do you Read

I am madly in love with Robert Downey Jr.

I'm reading American Gods at the moment and it's pretty good.

It gets better towards the end when everything starts coming together.

And Mr. Wednesday and Mr. Nancy are two of my alltime favorite characters.

The early Discworlds are a bit rough. I'd recommend picking up Mort of you haven't read it. Thats where they really take off.
This is quite correct. I do think they're slipping a little, however: the last ones haven't been as good as quite a few of the earlier ones.

Damn you Night Watch and your raising of my standards.

Surprisingly Strata, the pre-disc prototype novel reads cleaner than those two.
I honestly just couldn't get into Strata. Couldn't do it.

Here are my top ten favorite books, because I like top ten lists.

1. Mother Night - Kurt Vonnegut
2. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay - Michael Chabon
3. American Gods - Neil Gaiman
4. Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman
5. Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
6. Bird By Bird - Anne Lamott
7. Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris
8. The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice
9. God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater - Kurt Vonnegut
10. High Fidelity - Nick Hornby

I found Slaughter House Five to be my favorite Vonnegut book. Interesting.

Another good book is Sophie's World by Jostien Gaarder

I just finished reading The Sunlight Dialogues by John Gardner and Burning Chrome by William Gibson, and I'm still chewing on Against the Day inbetween other things. I'll post more later.

I read a lot of those back in Grade 7 and 8. They were great. The best to my memory were Goblin Moon and Diane Duane's trilogy of Spidey novels: The Venom Factor, The Lizard Sanction, and The Octopus Agenda.
I have The Lizard Sanction. I got a third of the way through it and just stopped. Reading about Spider-Man just feels odd.
And eventually I'll finish that James Monroe biography. Note to anyone attemtping it: if you want to read biographies of all the presidents, don't do it in order. Sooooo much boring overlap.
Most of the presidents of the 1800s are just boring as hell. Dull, dull, dull.
Adventures of Kavalier and Clay does rule, by Spider-Man 2 screen story writer Micahel Chabon. I haven't read any other books by him, but I have a friend who's read about all his stuff. However, the movie Wonder Boys based on his novel rocks completely.

Plus, Iron Man has sex with Spider-Man in it! And the first Rachel Dawes was there. . .
Having sex with Iron Man sounds...painful.

Robert Downey Jr just like taking advantage of socially awkward boys like Tobey Maguire, and then taking them to new york to publish their material.

The concept of Iron Man on Spider-Man action still both fascinates and thrills me.

I bought a five book box set of Vonnegut the other day for 10 bucks. I haven't started any of them yet.

Denton, Texas, the town I live in has about the most amazing used book store ever. It's massive and has an insane amount of books.

I live in Texas, but where the hell is Denton again?

North Texas, about 30 minutes north of dallas and and hour south of Oklahoma.Technically it's not actually north Texas. The northern most part of Texas is reffered to as the pan handle. It is one of the many things that upsets me.

Works for me (not like anyone lives in the ****ing pan handle anyways). I think that I may have been through that city when I was going to Oklahoma, but I can't remember. However, SWEET! Another Texan, you, me and Hibiki make three.

Except anything south of Austin and west of I-35 sucks. Houston fits that catagory. Sorry.

edit:

After checking the map and realizing Shiner, Texas is not in the area I said. I have to amend my non-suck regions of Texas to include Shiner, Texas home of Shiner Bock Beers. The finest beer for the most reasonable price. You should try it out if you're ever in the area.

Back on topic-

My absolute favorite book of all time is Lillies of the Field. It inspires me like nothing else, makes my imagination go crazy, and gives me the wonderlust. It is the perfect length to sit down and read in one sitting. I recomend it.

I always thought you were Bass-Lite, have you changed to Dr.Strangelite?
I am the -lite of everything. For I shall always be the light that opposes the darkness that exists within Man's soul.

FTW.
