In this scene, the battle droid is carrying a closed, rectangular object that could indeed remind one of a coffin or a box containing a precious artifact, similar to what might be seen in an Indiana Jones movie. This visual reference is subtle but it evokes the notion of mystery and significance often associated with coffins in adventure films, where they frequently contain treasures, relics, or secrets to be uncovered. Yup, that's the Ryloth Ark (or Twi'lek Ark in the Disney Canon ^^)

Both of the prequels are the same story. However, almost every single scene is completely different footage, following simular events but with different actors and character names. Only the flashbacks are the same, and we can combine those and take both as the exact same events. Essentially, we can take both prequels as canon and the first prequel is a "sequel" to the second prequel.

The Ninth Configuration is canon in the books at least. Billy Cutshaw, the astronaut from The Exorcist, appears in the movie. He's recast but it's fine.

The new movie retcons the TV series as an alternate timeline. Either only the original movie counts in that reality or it's a branched timeline. Probably the former, since I think it placed the first film in 1973 (edit: I was wrong, the month is different). I haven't seen the whole series, but maybe you can argue that the MacNeil family are separate individuals to the film characters who might have known separate versions of Karras and Merrin. This is probably unlikely.

I think I've gone over this before, but I learned about the extended cut of The Exorcist III and I love that film.

I did do a brief timeline of The Exorcist prequels ages ago to see how they match up, and it's actually fine. Despite not intending to match up and The Beginning actually being a "remake" after they scrapped Dominion, with Dominion releasing afterwards, both can fit into the continuity as an extended origin for how Merrin regained his faith.

That's the one with the Gemini Killer and THAT Jumpscare?

Yes, and lol I love that bit.

Oh, and the flashbacks to Merrin in Africa after WW2 in Exorcist II: The Heretic can be placed between The Beginning and the original film. I don't know why people think there's a contradiction there.

I think if you really wanted to, maybe the TV series could be canon if you take Regan and Chris as literally different people than they were in the original film, with their encounter being a few years earlier in 1973, but like... uh... no, I would say no to that.

Actually... maybe. Pazuzu is... "dealt with" in The Exorcist S1, and there's no sign of him in Believer. It matches. I suppose it could work if you want to BS them together.
