The Pixar Thread

It can't be both?

Going to your second point, you can dislike a movie for whatever reason you want. But disliking it just because someone else dislikes it? Why do you care what Alan Moore thinks and why would you use someone else's likes and dislikes as a basis for yours?

Honestly I'm surprised to hear something like that from you. Your points are usually well-thought out and well-articulated.

Right. I am trying more and more to not criticize films people really enjoy. Ever since a friend came up to me and started talking about KICK-ASS and I said, "Well, it's a piece of ****. The problem is it's cheap because..." and after I explained why it sucked he couldn't enjoy it anymore and I realised, "Why the hell am I telling people why films suck? There's no positive response out of it other than 'they agree with me' which is less satisfying than hearing someone talk about how much they love it". So I'm trying not to do it anymore. Now, sometimes, I'll relapse and start ranting, and other times, I won't. You'll notice I've not been jumping into threads like THE DEATH OF ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN to really savage it like I used to with HEROES. I recently took a look at the RED HULK: SCORCHED EARTH everyone raved about and was disappointed but I didn't really say anything because I don't really want to upset people anymore.

Considering that V FOR VENDETTA is one of your favourite movies, I'm not going to say why I think it is awful. Just enjoy it, and that's that.

No no no no no. I'm a big boy and can handle someone not liking something that I like.

And really - if we are avoiding discussion because we don't want to hurt someone's feelings then I might as well shut the site down, because what good is a discussion board if you can't discuss things? Stop avoiding threads because you're afraid of hurting someone else's feelings. If they can't handle it, they should leave. Talk or argue respectfully and all will be well. I've never known you to do otherwise so I don't know why you would do that.

That said (and even though it's off topic) I do want to know what YOU - not Alan Moore or anyone else - doesn't like about V for Vendetta.

Brave concept art.

L-R: Princess Merida (Kelly MacDonald), Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson), the old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson).

I'm being flippant.

This site is littered with examples of me giving itemized reasons why someone liking something is wrong. It's become a joke, and a poor one at that. And while I may have the freedom to say what I want about anything, I should also have the capability to understand that if people are enjoying something I hate, going in their with the sole purpose of "illuminating" people to my brilliance as to why it's **** isn't constructive and essentially trolling. People seem to love RED HULK: SCORCHED EARTH. Should I go into that thread and put a calm, polite essay deconstructing their love for the character, or should I just leave it alone and post in a thread about something I like and talk it up? Do I need to validate my opinion so much? The second seems better for all and more desirable to me.

There is discussion beyond "You're wrong for these reasons. Here are my quoted sources."

Everything. I hate everything about it. I made a big post and I deleted it. You enjoy it. It's one of your favourites. What do you care why I don't like it? Just enjoy it.

Pixar should make a film based on Red Hulk: Scorched Earth.

Why do you care why I want to know?

Forget it - sometimes you just decide you're going to be as difficult as possible.

My "Why do you care" was rhetorical. I'm not trying to be difficult. I just don't see the point in laying out a list of long, ranting points as to why I don't like V FOR VENDETTA when you love it and expressed that you absolutely won't change your mind. And, if I do change your mind, then all I've done is made you hate something you once enjoyed.

It's just a waste of my, and your, time.

All I have to say is.... EEEEEEE!!!!

Am I the only one that thinks Merida looks like the spawn of Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood? (Not that I'm complaining, there's a slashfic I definitely support)

You know why I enjoy your reviews and deconstructions? The same reason why I like Zombi's. You guys give a fresh and DIFFERENT perspective that I couldn't otherwise a) express or b) hear or read anywhere else without feeling the author comes across as, for lack of a better word, stuck up. Pretentious was the word I was looking for.

Without getting completely off-topic, I adore everyone on this site for varying reasons. But I return to this site to read a handful of posters. You being one of them. I wouldn't be against toning it down, but to stop reviewing completely? C'mon.

What he said. It's weird, I'll freely admit, I used to be annoyed by a lot of your reviews/comments. Now, while even when I disagree with you, I respect you and what you have to say. There are still times where you get under my skin, but it's not a bad thing anymore. I learn from it, and almost always get a kick out of it.

I'm shocked, shocked to hear you used to find me annoying. Also, completely unsurprised. That's very kind of you both, and appreciated, but I'm only trying to talk more about the positive sides, rather than the negative. And if everyone hates it, it's fun to trash it together. I'm talking specifically about attacking a piece of work that someone else is really enjoying. If they're not enjoying it, then I don't mind attacking, nor talking about why it might be awesome. But if someone is really enjoying it, I try not to have a go at it. As I said, I'm just not tearing into something people love anymore. Let's be honest: it was quite tiresome at times. Skotti's honest about this.

The truth is, I've been trying to change in that regard for a while now, and no one noticed until I pointed it out. So it's not a big deal. Let's just get back to Pixar and how much I want to work for them and have their perfect talent babies.
