So the movie timeline could be like this, August 2009-July 2010. Dre could start his school year in China after summer vacation, after he moved to China.

Dre's birthday is July 8, 1997, as seen in beginning of the movie, in the scene Mr. Han tells about his family accident, which occurs in June 8, Dre says he has 12 years old, the scene is before his 13 years old anniversary.

Dre is already 12 years old at the beginning of the film, so the film has to start after July 8th, so August 2009 as the start of the movie works.

Mr. Han says his wife and son died the 8th of June after the festival, which appears in Dre's phone, so June 20 in early scene is a mistake, so the movie probably have to start before June.

Yeah, it's weird. Researching the Chinese school system, they start and break the same time as America, so a June 6th school start doesn't make sense unless it's some sort of summer school or something. But, hell, I will go for June as a start date.

True...though, it could be June 2010...I don't recall them celebrating his birthday in the film. Maybe they did and I just didn't remember.
