Saw it last night. Overall, a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It dragged a bit in a few places and some of the writing was a bit, well, 1980s cartoon, but on the whole I enjoyed myself.
The animation (which I wasn't much of a fan of in stills) flowed well and looked good in action, as did the character designs (well, the human ones did. I thought that the turtles looked good from the get-go, and they very much capture the look of the original comics, especially in distance shots).
The plot was a little patchwork. Karai and the Foot Clan, cool as they were to see, seemed mainly tacked on for mythos sake, but the main villains and plot were interesting. I wished they had been explored a bit more indepth, especially the dynamic they set up of the villains family against the Turtles. Overall though, it was nice to see something different being tried.
I was a big fan of April's portrayal here, elevating her from the whole damsel in distress/sidekick persona to being someone who can play ball. Casey Jones was cool too, especially his combat outfit, but his persona needed to be a bit rougher I think.
As for the Turtles themselves, they did a good (but not great) job of portraying them. Leo was pretty spot on, so was Donny, but Raph needed to be a bit harder and biting I think, and Mikey just a bit less obnoxious. Still, they came off as the Turtles of old, which was nice.
In all, I enjoyed it for good fun, and I'm not opposed to the sequel that is blatantly set up.
