TCB's (9 Million) Films to Watch Before You Die

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

#75 Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Once of Arhnold's finest performances (next to his role in Batman and Robin of course) in one of the greatest action films ever conceived. Coupled with groundbreaking special effects for the shapeshifting T-1000, this is must see.

#76 Almost Famous (2000)

The story of a young writer traveling around 1970's America with a rock band on the rise. A very funny and touching film. Film making so good it makes Kate Hudson seem like a good actress. . . and the "Tiny Dancer" scene is one of my favorites from any film

#77 Speed Racer (2008)

The most faithful and visually exciting adaptation of a cartoon ever. Really.

#78: JAMES & THE GIANT PEACH (1996)

A great tale about a kid, a giant peach, and bugs that become a unique family.

#79 Iron Man ( 2008 )

While The Dark Knight is the best comic book movie, iron Man is the best Marvel movie. After a string of failures, half assed efforts, or some really good films that still missed the mark. Iron Man was the first to be a perfect adaptation of the character.

80. The Fox and the Hound (1981)

A rare classic from Disney's worst years. The film is great, but it's also incredibly depressing and maybe a poor choice to show to a little kid. The movie essentially tells you that friends sometimes grow apart and your best friend probably won't be your best friend forever. It makes sense then that this was one of the first movies Tim Burton worked on. Also, there's a scary bear. I'm so pumped for the Blu-ray release this year, but upset that it comes with the godawful sequel that went directly to DVD a few years ago.

Clearly, all anyone does is read the name of the film then rushes to post their new film. Either that, or none of you have a sense of humour.

Attention seeker.

81. Sunshine (2007)
Inspired by films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris and Alien, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's Sunshine is all about the beauty and horror of space. A team of scientists is recruited from all over the world and sent to reignite the sun before it dies. Some may criticize the silly tagline or the third-act twist but that doesn't stop Sunshine from being an excellent piece of science-fiction and Danny Boyle's best film yet.

#82. Kagemusha (1980) - A movie that circles around the events of The Battle of Nagashino. Involving around the Nobunaga, Tokugawa and Takeda clans, the film primarily tells the story of Takeda Shingen, leader of the Takeda clan. His brother, Nobukado, saves a thief from cricifixion after realizing the thief (the Kagemusha) bears a striking resemblance to Shingen. Nobukado, having played his brothers' imposter for many years, sees this as an opportunity to break free of being his brother's shadow for so many years. Shingen is later shot on the battlefield and eventually succumbs to his wounds. To keep this a secret from the other clans, the Takeda clans' top generals devise a plan to have the Kagemusha permanently take Shingen's place as a dummy leader to thwart any chance of the enemy attacking if they found out that Shingen had actually died. From there you see Kagemusha slowly becoming more and more like Shingen, even gaining his closest advisor's trust and admiration. A very tragic and moving story that everyone should see. Easily one of Akira Kurosawa's finest films to be made.

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

Finally getting around to catching up with the list from my last post, and I almost choked to death on my soda when I read Bass' description for The Shining. That has to be the greatest synopses of any movie in the history of ever.

83. Akira (1989) Katsuhiro Otomo's epic piece of science fiction. Behind the warring bike gangs, political intrigue, psychedelic psychic combat and hyper nationalism, there's a pretty sobering tale about the horrors of the Nuclear Age and the lingering resentment of the use of atomic weapons on Japan. If it's remade or not, nothing will take away the original's staying power. Also, it has one of the most powerful soundtracks I've ever experienced.

Numbering fixed. There were two 82's and Bass' 83 was supposed to be (and now is) 84.
