TCB's (9 Million) Films to Watch Before You Die

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

38. Jaws (1975)
"You're gonna need a bigger boat." The interaction between Brody, Hooper and Quint. The music. The very first blockbuster. You'll never want to go in the water again.

#40 The Thing (1982). One of the greatest Horror films of all time brought to you by the king of 1980s Horror, John Carpenter. What happens when you're fighting an Alien that could be anybody or everybody? You lose a bit of yourself. Everyone should see this film before the prequel comes out this fall.

[Shall we add trailers to all of these?]

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

Compiling the list in the first post and adding trailers are both good ideas.

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

Edited my previous post with a trailer. Others should follow suit!

#41 Shutter Island (2010)

Beautifully shot, great mood, terrific acting. Maybe a little predictable but will still surprise you.

#42. Office Space. One of the few films I really think of as flawless, especially the screenplay which is one of the best and most quotable ever written. Great both on the first viewing and any subsequent ones, it's another film that perfectly captures an era of life and culture and should be preserved forever and shown to classes 500 years from now the way Shakespearean comedies are.

I'll help!

#43: Fantastic mr. Fox.
Wes Anderson directing an animated movie based on a Roald Dahl story. Add a colorfull cast of interesting characters voiced by great actors and you have yourself a fantastic movie.

#44 Halloween (1978 ) - One of John Carpenter's best, and arguably the one that started an entire genre. Donald Pleasance, as Dr Loomis, was one of the best protagonists in horror. It also contains one of the most recognizable bits of music in any film today.

#45 Near Dark (1987) Possibly the greatest Vampire movie ever made, and one of the primary influences for the current Vertigo comic, American Vampire. The film came out the same year as "The Lost Boys" and paints a picture of Vampires in the 1980s without having to rely on camp. The word vampire is never actually used during the film. The bar scene (which is where I grabbed my current avatar) is the most vicious, perfect scene of vampirism ever put on screen. Severen, played by Bill Paxton, is marvelously insane and dangerous. A real must-see for anybody who likes vampires to be creatures of horror.

#46 The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, 1988

A little girl's hometown is threaten by an invading army, and her only hope is an old man who no longer believes in himself or the world. The two of them escape the siege and go out into the world where nothing is at it seems, to find a group of heroes only to find out the heroes no longer believe in their own stupendous abilities.

#47. The Iron Giant (1999)
Brad Bird's first animated feature film may also be his best. The Iron Giant is a beautiful story about the Cold War and right and wrong - "you are who you choose to be." Amazing animation, a great voice cast (Vin Diesel's best role) and a fantastic ending make this not only one of the best animated films I've ever seen but one of the best films in general. "Super... man."

#48. The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976)

Former Chief inspector Dreyfus is now a crazy man and is hell bent on destroying the world....unless someone brings him the dead body of Inspector Clouseau. Starring the great Peter Sellers.

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

I've already done it in a Word document along with who selected which film. :(

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

Damn. I guess it takes a sucker to know one! Who selected what film definitely sounds good.

Edit: I keep forgetting about Near Dark. We had an empty case for it at Blockbuster that kept getting put back on the shelf and people would rave about how great it was but I've barely even heard of it in comparison to other big-name vampire movies.

#49 Willow 1988

Fantasy film that knows fantasy. I remember loving this film. And it has Val Kilmer in it.

Re: TCB's 1,001 Films to Watch Before You Die

Remember: either 10 posts or 24 hours since your last post before you can post again. I don't want people posting two or more films in only half a day.
