No, he spoiled his spoiler in his follow paragraph.
Could you get into an ongoing with throw away villains? Are there any that are still alive that you want to read about? I'm not talking villains that are still being used (mysterio) but actual throw aways?
The spot
Sabretooth
mystique
morbius
the beetle
Just off the top of my head.
No. And the reason why is because without Reed Richards, it is not the Fantastic Four. The team exists and carries on solely because of him and his work.
.
Was there any point in using the spoiler notice when you stated the exact same thing in in the following paragraph? Just curious...

What if they called themselves the Fantastic Force? Plus at one point Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider were the Fantastic Four in the Marvel U. Also Crystal, Medusa, Luke Cage, Nova (Frankie Raye), She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel (Sharon Ventura), Ant-Man (Scott Lang), Storm, Black Panther, and Flux were all FF members at one point.
Or what if they introduce an alternate Reed Richards. Sue did download all of Reed's alternate reality files. Before he destroyed the Triskellion in the Ultimate Doom mini.

Honestly I can't even remember if he's dead or not, but it doesn't matter because they destroyed the character beyond hope. There is no coming back.
If they hadn't, and there was still a way to use him, I'd love to see the book used to explore the idea of space/time/dimensional/atomic exploration and how the world changes in response toward real-life applications stemming from discoveries made therein, i.e. curing diseases, etc.
Until they find an interesting new spin on it.
The FF is about a family who goes on weird science adventures. Reed is important, but he's not the it factor.

Was UFF ever about family though? I never got that vibe off them. They seemed more like a group of friends. I thought it was just about SCIENCE ADVENTURES (To boldly science where no man has scienced before).
But he is. Without Reed, there's no one making these crazy inventions which propel them into those weird science adventures, or coming up with an invention to get them out of a tight spot, etc. Reed really is the lynchpin of the FF, in either universe. He's also usually the most interesting character of the four specifically because of his insane intelligence and the things it gets him into and out of.
DIrishB said:Yeah, the family thing never really made it to the forefront in UFF, I think largely because they were so young, and therefore largely immune to the wistful thinking of older folks who reflect on things like family and relationships.
Uncle Ben might not approve.Or Aunt May.
Aunt May should get stretchy powers.

What about a Fantastic Four book starring Reed as a bad guy? I'm not sure how it would work, maybe somehow the team comes together again and the dynamic is just completely different. Maybe he works with three other villains. Maybe its just a story about the three of them as good guys and Reed as a bad guy. It still stars the same characters but they aren't a team any more. They just have interconnecting stories.
I don't know, it's a thought.
I know this is a old thread, but I was just think about a new FF. What if it's the same team but they have Spider-Woman Join. She seems to hate being on the Ultimates. And she seems like the most likely choice out of the rest of the Ultimate Characters. She probably as smart as Peter Parker, (even though it's kind of creepy) Johnny has kind of a thing for her, And Reed was willing to kill both Peter and Jessica because he saw as threats. And Reed can be their Doctor Doom.
The Fantastic Four is unique because the knew each other and got their powers together. They are a family. A team of four people is not the same as the Fantastic Four.
