Mass Effect 3

This video pretty much says it all.

Please... tell me this is a clever satire....

Seriously.

If not, this "gentleman" has some deeply-seated issues. It's a game, it's a story, and most importantly, it's Bioware's story. To the people who wanted multiple endings, there's a logistical issue with that, Bioware has said from Mass Effect 1, that this trilogy is just a part of a greater story. So having a separate ending for every braying ass, would make it damn near impossible to do the next trilogy. So all of your choices (which are still influential in the core of Mass Effect 3), did/do matter, but the ending had to be scripted to continue the franchise.

Yeah, it's a joke. It's apparently a character that guy does. He's the lightsabers for Christmas guy!

This is the most epic game i've ever played. And it picked up seamlessly from my Mass Effect 2 save. I'm used to things like that never working right.

My only complaint is James. All the characters from the first two that aren't party members and we get a generic grunt?

I'm in the same boat. I have to admit, as just an NPC/pilot, I found Cortez infinitely more interesting than James. I was kinda peeved that Miri, Kasumi, Jack, Zaeed, etc were all relegated to just one shot missions n stuff.

....... Avoiding spoilers showing up in the side bar... lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala

(I think that's good)

In general, I was disappointed in the crew choices. Tali, Garrus, Ashley, and Liara returning was to be expected, but the two remaining members were a waste. Honestly, I preferred James to EDI. Going into the game and following that opening mission with Anderson, I figured the missions featuring ME2 alum would have you playing with them as guest party members and a third character of your choosing. So that was disappointing, but my favorites still got pretty epic closure (Thane and Mordin in particular, Jack to a lesser extent). Still, given how great the characterization was in ME2, it seems a waste they didn't carry over in any crewmate capacity.

The ending itself didn't bother me, but the ambiguity leading into it did. Considering how much of the game is devoted to long conversation trees involving the most miniscule things, it boggles my mind that you didn't have the option of asking questions about the implications of the biggest choice of the entire series.

As far as gameplay goes, I can't find much to fault. It really found the perfect level of customization between the cumbersome and backwards inventory/management of ME1 and the stripped down approach of ME2. Planet scanning was still a total waste, and I would have liked for war assets to have a little more, I don't know, dynamism... And the side quest system sucked. but all in all, good stuff.

The boss fight with the reaper on Tuchanka was epic, which made the two other big reaper fights kind of a let-down....

ME2 is still the better game, but I wasn't disappointed in the finale.

Agreed on almost all accounts.

I can honestly say that I only loved EDI as a member, only because I didn't get Miranda back as a permanent crew member. As much as I enjoyed ME3, I have to say I was a little disappointed by the team members.

I'm more disappointed that Bioware did it again. Jennifer Hale admitted to recording romance dialogue for fShep/Ash and fShep/Tali, both got axed before release. Just like the removal of fShep/Ash from ME1 and fShep/Miri and fShep/Tali from ME2. I appreciate Specialist Traynor, as she was cute and a billion times more charming that Kelly the Cerberus Bicycle, but really guys? You claim to love the LGBT community, but we're still treated as second class in Mass Effect.

Today's spoiler space is sponsored by Alanis Morissette lyrics. See her in As Cool As I Am, coming later this year. Seriously, do it. She needs the self-esteem boost.

And I'm here to remind you
Of the mess you left when you went away
It's not fair to deny me
Of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You, you, you oughta know

There? Good.

EDI grew on me as a character, but I still never used her in combat. I did use James because sometimes I needed a pure combat grunt to fill out my squad. But leaving out ME2 squaddies completely just seemed like a waste given that the whole game was devoted to the character work, and bringing in Ashley (or I guess Kaidan) and Liara just emphasized how flat the characters from the first game seemed in comparison. Also, it didn't really bother me, but the fact that work benches seemed to just show up in the first couple of missions and then disappeared entirely seemed like a wasted opportunity. I get the feeling they were a last minute addition, and I'm curious to know how much of development had to be rushed for this game. If we'd gotten another six months before release, I wonder how much better this might have turned out.

As far as romance goes, the same sex partnerships seemed like a meager hand-out to fans. I kind of assumed James Vega was added to have a new gay romance option and figured there were returning options for recurring lez options, but after a glance over the guide it looks like all that was on offer were Traynor and Cortez. Is that really the case? because it strikes me as a little insulting.

But then, the romance options have always left me kind of cold. It's all just too clinical to provide any emotional investment for me, always coming down to picking the top options on the dialogue wheel and not having any real impact on the game or your decisions. Always being the nice guy isn't how relationships work and I'm hardly bothered to care without any real narrative or gameplay fallout from decisions made. It would be a little different if, say, my decisions regarding the geth and quarians might impact my relationship with Tali, but it doesn't. And that's one of my general problems with the decisions in the game. There's no real sense of loss in terms of decisions made because, no matter which path you choose, it all plays out as an even spread of points counting towards your readiness goal.

I can honestly say, I found the relationship stuff in Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2 to be far and away better.

And yes, the only M/M option is Cortez (tho I've heard from some that Kaiden's kinda clingy), the only F/F is Traynor. As a LGBT player, my only options were Liara, Traynor (or Kelly), and Allers. While Allers and Liara were open options for everyone.

Still, the best depiction of the ending people are demanding.

Hahaha. Well, in defense of all the haters, I don't think they were upset that it was a downer ending. Just that it was ambiguous, and didn't really take into account any of the decisions that came before.

I just finished the game. Thanks to all of you for not spoiling the game in the sidebar.

I thought it was perfect. Epic, brilliant, moving, transcendant.

So, despite my mixed feelings about the ending, I feel like it left the series in a more interesting and ethically complex place than the original trilogy was. Does that make sense?

Alright, here's a hypothetical. What direction would you like to see with a Mass Effect sequel or spin-off?

I'm not sure. I would be interested in exploring more of the past, like the First Contact War.

I think a real time strategy game would be an ideal way to expand on the back story, especially if it was built with a marketplace for user generated content.

I agree. Age of Empires + Mass Effect = win.

As for the future... time travel!
