Marvel Cinematic Universe News, Rumors, and Discussion

The latest Empire has a GotG2 feature, and James Gunn mentions that Marvel have offered him GOTG Vol. 3, but he hasn't decided yet if he wants to do it. He also commends them for giving him some creative control on Infinity War regarding the GotG characters when he hasn't committed to the sequel yet.

That part of the interview was from about a month ago.

Are we about to get a good Thor film?

Hela looks fantastic. That headdress is crazy. And the Thor/Hulk fight scene should be proportionately epic, though I have a feeling it's all for show plotwise. Mainly because without Mjolnir, Thor really doesn't stand much chance against Hulk, does he? I mean, Asgardian or not, son of Odin or not, taking on Hulk alone is a bad idea. I have a feeling Hulk attacks Thor in that scene because he's expected to and knows if he doesn't he or Thor may face the Grandmaster's wrath... so Hulk bats him around a bit in the arena and wins match, then after explains why he attacked. Hopefully we'll see Hulk evolve a bit to retain a bit more intelligence, something such a ruse carried out by the Hulk persona would help convey. They then begin plotting their escape. Just a guess.

Apparently Mark Ruffalo wasn't on set very much, so I expect Hulk will be Hulk and not Banner for most of the movie. The prevaling theory is that he has accepted Hulk more so his intelligence is coming through more.

And just about a week after me writing that, James Gunn announces he's writing and directing Vol. 3.

Much of what's happened in the MCU for the past ten or so years has been leading, in a big way, to the Avengers' Infinity War. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen after all that. It will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond. I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.

Concluding the story of "this iteration" of GotG sounds ominous. I'm betting he's killing off more than one member of the group in Vol. 3, but also introducing new members.

G̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶L̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶A̶v̶e̶n̶g̶e̶r̶s New Warriors Roster

Doreen Green (Squirrel Girl)
Superpower: "The powers of a squirrel, the powers of a girl" (is acrobatic, strong, can fight, can talk to squirrels)
Doreen is a totally empowered fangirl. She is a natural leader—confident and tough, but not innocent. Doreen is bouncy and energetic and her greatest quality is her optimism… She has faith in others and inspires people to believe in themselves. She also takes her pet squirrel, Tippy Toe, everywhere.

Craig Hollis (Mister Immortal)
Superpower: Cannot die. Ever. Maybe. So he says.
The team troublemaker and lothario… Craig is kind of like "The Most Interesting Man Alive," except he's more cocky than confident and at times, charmingly grumpy. Although Craig's superpower seems amazing, he hasn't made use of it at all—he's lazy and figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to fight, what's the rush?

Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher)
Superpower: None
Dwayne is a local celebrity "hero" with his very own YouTube channel. Brilliant, strong, noble, and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur. But he also deeply believes in justice — at least his version of it. Dwayne hides the fact that he comes from a really rich family because he's afraid he'll lose his street cred.

Robbie Baldwin (Speedball)
Superpower: Can launch kinetic balls of energy
Robbie grew up watching Quinjets take off from Avengers Tower and loves the idea of being a hero. He's an impulsive and immature people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence. Although you would think throwing kinetic balls of energy would be awesome and effective – his are completely out of control.

Zack Smith (Microbe)
Superpower: Can talk to germs
Zack is a shy hypochondriac whose ability nearly makes him a telepath — the germs tell him where you've been, what you ate and who you hung out with. It's impossible to keep secrets around him. He's a big sweet guy the team takes under their wing, and they help him find and grow his own confidence.

Deborah Fields (Debrii)
Superpower: Low level telekinetic; trickster
Deborah is proud, funny and quick witted. Confidently out as a lesbian, Deborah has experienced deep loss in her personal life as a direct result of super "heroics." She can take care of herself, or at least says she can. She's the one who calls people on their BS and has no fear of putting her opinions out there.

This is, uh, something

And this looks great

What's the likelihood of an Agent of SHIELD showing up in The Defenders you think? Someone has to investigate all this stuff in New York at some point right?

What's Perlmutter got to do with it? I thought his beef was with FOX?

Nope, with Feige too. Hence why Disney gave Feige direct control of Marvel Studios/film production and removed Perlmutter from the film equation entirely, which created bad blood with Perlmutter.

What does Marvel Studios have to do with the TV department?

Nothing other than that they're all under same Disney corporate umbrella. That was sort of the point, along with fact Feige won't work with Perlmutter anymore (his interference in Phase 1 films was notorious), and Perlmutter is notoriously petty, so probably would stand in way of the TV characters showing up in films.

It's all just a multi-billion dollar pissing contest, after all.
