Marvel 1985 (Spoilers!)

I loved the last issue. It was incredibly superb. I loved the fact that when Red Skull killed Toby's dad, and was brought into the MU, he saved his life and gave him a date with Jane (and Blake as his doctor! Nice.).

It was also good seeing the art being different between the 'real world' and the MU.

This was a great mini series. Definitely recommended for all.

I loved this mini also! It gave me a break from Skrull-fever.

It was very unique and refreshing (like Sprite!) It's was just nice to read something that was original and that fact that it took place in the 80's sold me!
I almost wish they dragged it out for a few more issues. OOOOOh maybe a sequel... 1986!

I only read this in its entirety when it came out, just the first 3 or 4 issues. But I thought it was good enough to pick up in trade. So I did.

I just finished it. And it was kind of corny (in a good way). The front cover has a quote where the reviewer calls it a "popcorn movie in comic book form". And it is.

Until the last 2 pages.

I have never gotten choked up reading a comic, but I did with this. When you're a dad father/son stories like that can get to you.

I really liked it.

I am surprised more people didn't read/talk about this - it's one of the best things Millar has ever written, especially compared to his current stuff (which is decent but not really his best).

I was actually let down.

I remember the hype around it and it basically boils down to:

"I live in a boring town and like comics. Wait...is that Red Skull? OMG HUlk in fighting in mah woodz! ****...now the Lizard? **** me---Galactus. In my world? ZOMG! WTF? You mean that old brain dead cripple is behind this? Poof. Excelsior."

Anything can be made to sound bad/terrible when you put them in that context.

Hype? The only hype surrounded this was when it was being made with photos and there were those articles saying it was going to cost millions of dollars. When the comic actually came out, it seems like no one even knew what it was or cared about it.

Yep. Even this thread is not 2 full pages. Not much was made of it.

By the way, where is the pre-release discussion thread? It really should be merged with this into one thread.

I think it's probably in the Wasteland by now.
