Early on, New Line executives said that The Rings of Power would reprise visuals from Peter Jackson's films,[20] and this was also the impression given to Jackson from his talks with the executives, saying that the showrunners intend to "have a series and a world where it sort of fits with the films",[21] and "in the same world" as his films, agreeing to share his designs.[22] This was reiterated by John Howe, who said "the show runners are determined to remain faithful to the existing trilogies"[23] and that "it's a continuation."[24][25] Orlando Bloom, having looked into the matter through Amazon producers, seems to have arrived at the same conclusion, as well, saying that "its not a remake"[26] However, "if only for legal reasons", the show cannot replicate specific props from the films, but has a similar design aesthetic.[27] Executive Jennifer Salke pointed out that "we're also not starting from scratch."[28] Amazon on its website refers to the show as being set in the storyline before the films,[29] which would be obvious to those who read The Silmarillion, but perhaps not a general audience. Lead actress Morfydd Clark said she struggles with not being an "imposter" of the movie actors, saying "There's a huge amount of respect for the films."[30][31]
