I think once we get used to him in this movie we'll want him around for a couple more... I never really thought Roger Moore should've been James Bond (I had seen a Pierce Brosnan Bond before a Moore Bond) when I first saw him, but he grew on me... We'll have to see how this new guy's recieved.

You were around when Moore was Bond? Wow...

Having seen the trailer, I kind of stared for five minutes and knew I just wouldn't go. Seriously. It looks ****. Craig is a even worse casting than my original impression. I'm so down on this film already.

I kinda have to agree.

First of all, I'm pissed as hell that they're not bringing back Brosnan, because IMHO he's the best Bond ever.

Second, with Brosnan gone I really wanted them to at least cast Jason Isaacs(Lucius Malfoy) as the new Bond.

Third, I'm not thrilled by the idea of a "rookie" Bond getting to know the ropes. Bond is way to cool for that. He should be a constant. I'm not interested in either his origin or his downfall. I only want to see him in his prime. It would be like making an origin of Gandalf movie.

Fourth, Q isn't going to be in it. That SUCKS. I'm not saying the whole movie should be gadget-oriented, but I want at least a few cool gadgets because they're a staple of the entire franchise.

I read on IMDB that the lead singer of Audioslave was approached about the band doing the new theme. He at first rejected them, saying that he had never actually enjoyed the Bond movies, especially the Brosnan ones. In order to convince him, the brought him to the set and showed him an early cut of the film. In his words:

Chris Cornell said:
"I was just completely blown away by it, because it's unlike any Bond film ever, really. Craig is an actor's actor, and there's emotional content to the movie. He's not like the swaggering, winking sort of super-agent guy. He's like a human being in this movie, and it's going to completely readjust the way people think of the character."

I have to say, I'm the same type of person. I've never seen a Bond movie all the way to the end. The whole Bond image is just so ingrained in pop culture that, to me, the movies just feel like jokes. Like parodies of themselves. I've just never felt any real interest in the characters or the style of the movies.

But this article has got me interested. I've been thinking that the only thing that would get me to watch a Bond movie is if they completely retooled it. If they made it grittier and more real and tried to give some depth to the characters and the situations. It looks like that's actually what they're doing. For once, I actually care about a Bond movie and I'm actually interested in seeing it.

I agree, the older Bonds were okay but the Brosnan ones were really crap, except for golden eye (which was awesome), they just got worst as it went on. I mean an invisible car? Come on! And this one is not an origin film , the same M that was in the Brosnan ones is in this. The book itself took place in his early days, but not so for this one. Casino Royale will have the much needed revamping in style and attitude. You can probably bert on this one being less of a cheesy blockbuster, cause as I recall hearing in the book Bond is captured (or pisserd off the wrong people or something) and gets repeatly beaten in the balls with a baseball bat, Grittier? Yes.

Re: James Bond - Casino Royale

Craig is a great actor, he should finally ground the Bond movies into something a little more believable. Brosnan couldn't act himself out of a paper bag, and his Bond movies were utterly naff.

Going back to the source material, instead of the twisted parodies of old Bond movies that we've been given for the last few years, is the right move.

Look very much forward to this.

None is better.

....and here's why:

Connery was the original. For anyone who's ever read the early books of James Bond. The ones covering his first years as 007---they allude to the concept of "Is James Bond a gentleman trained to be a killer? Or a killer trained to be a gentleman?"

That was the ideaology that I liked the most. That's what brought depth to the character of Bond. Connery fit this idea perfectly. He had the suaveness about him....but still had the visceral look of a thug pulled from a back alley and paid $50 to put on suit and kill so-n-so.

Plus Connery was a straight pimp fo realz yo!!!!! :slimjim:
