Re: James Bond - Casino Royale
So. . .I saw this at midnight last night (Because I'll be damned if I wait in line to buy a buggy 600 dollar gaming system) and. . .wow.
WOW.
Honestly, I don't think I've enjoyed a Bond film more than Casino Royale since. . .well, since Connery did it. It was better than Goldeneye (Which is hard for me to say, since Goldeneye is what got me into Bond films).
Craig makes Bond believable. He's human, he makes mistakes, he's arrogant, he falls in love. . .but he's a badass. He's also very funny, but in a subtle way.
His one shortcomming is he is a bit stiff, especially with the ladies. The rugged attitude really works for when he's dealing with the spy stuff (And his sense of humor is very unique), but he needs to be a bit more suave when it comes to seducing women, so it doesn't come off that he just stands there, looks pretty, and gets the girl.
Most of the movie is very intense. The action sequences are much more believable (As is the plot) then the previous few movies. Hell, the hold-'em poker game is even really intense (It was a nice change from watching Bond play baccarat, which I barely understand. It was also a nice way to make Bond more contemporary). It's also awesome to see where the martini and Bond's attitude towards women comes from.
I highly, highly recommend this movie to any Bond fan, and even if you're not a Bond fan, I'd still say its well worth it to check out to see if this newer take appeals to you. I'm looking forward to the Craig era of Bond films. . .I just hope the next few stay in line with the tone of Casino Royale.
Then again, there's a big difference between not liking Bendis and not liking James Bond.
