I think it'll be up for an Oscar in 2006. After all, how couldn't it? With a flaming skull, a motorcycle, and a chain-whip, how can it not be well received by critics and fans alike?
If it went up for an Oscar, it'd be 2007, not '06.

Ghost Rider Bumped to 2007
Source: Variety December 15, 2005

Sony Pictures' $120 million Nicolas Cage-starrer Ghost Rider, based on the Marvel comic book, has been bumped from its July 14, 2006, release date to President's Day weekend (Feb. 16) 2007.

Variety says that the move likely won't be the last for Sony, which still has six other films to release during the upcoming summer months. The studio has 28 movies lined up for 2006 from its five divisions (Columbia, Screen Gems, TriStar, Revolution and MGM).

Sony's other summer '06 pics include Columbia's The Da Vinci Code (May 19); Columbia/Revolution's Click (June 23); Sony Pictures Animation's Monster House (July 21); Columbia's Will Ferrell NASCAR comedy (Aug. 4); and Revolution's Tim Allen starrer Zoom (Aug. 11) and Little Man (May 26).

"I think everybody is looking at their release schedules in '06 and trying to avoid some of the traffic jams," Sony vice chairman Jeff Blake told the trade. "Seven films for a summer is a lot."

Marvel Studios must now undo a carefully laid out plan of ancillary tie-in deals. The new release date gives the studio an expensive action film with which to start 2007.

Marvel's Avi Arad, director Mark Steven Johnson and his producing partner Gary Foster also found the slot to be a lucky one when they released Daredevil in 2003.

Yeah, not exactly the smartest move, especially considering how fragile the box office has been.

Uh...I think thats the point in moving it to 2007. So as not to have the other movies (even those released by its subsidiary studios) step on each other's toes (financially speaking).

Re: Ghost Rider movie

This looks like it'll be the next Daredevil. Not bad per se......but not very good either.

The fact that it's not coming out until Feb 2007 seals it's fate. It falls in perfectly with my theory on Marvel films.

Released in the late spring/summer time---big budget awesomeness (with the exception of Fantastic 4....which was kinda awesome)

Released in fall/winter time---quality throw away titles that are only meant to keep the Marvel film name out there.

Examples:
Spring/Summer-- Spider-Man 1 and 2, X-Men 1 and 2, The Hulk, Fantastic 4

Fall/Winter-- Daredevil, Blade, Elektra, Punisher

It's a proven fact. Now that's not to say that the stuff in the fall/winter is bad.....it's just not as good as the summer stuff. That's just my theory. Hell....my 2 favorite Marvel movies are The Hulk and Punisher.

Yeah....that's right Hulk and Punisher. :p

.....Are you out of your freaking mind?

No.

See here's what I think---I think that on the heels of Spiderman and X2, a lot of people went into "Hulk" expecting a lot of "GRRR!!!! HULK SMASH!!!!" type of action. They were expecting big explosions and supervillain battles. And you really can't blame them because that's how the film was marketed. All the trailers, commercials, media spots and merchandise portrayed the film as an action film. Instead what they got was a drama with some action. It was a greek tradegy/sins-of-the-father kinda film. It was a movie about a man trying to deal with controlling his inner demons......which was what the comic was about a few years back.

I've fallen off the radar with the Hulk comics so I can't be too sure of whether or not that statement is true....but the few issues I did read were mainly of Banner trying to control his rage/demons and only letting the Hulk out when the situation really called for it.

The film that Ang Lee did...was great in my opinion (with the exception of the whole idea that Bruce was born with the Hulk trait). The acting from Bana and Connelly was spot on. And they couldn't have picked a better person to play General Ross. The CGI of the Hulk was damn near flawless. I mean he even had beard stubble!!!! I haven't seen CGI characters that good since Gollum. Don't even get me started on the editting of the panels. It was like watching a living comic.

Anyways...I think Hulk was what you made of it......and I know I can't be the only person who liked it................am I????? I mean did anyone else see this movie in the same perspective as I did???

And with that Victor Von Doom lost all crediblity

The special effect were awesome, but the dialogue, plot and acting was horrible. Its like they were reading of que cards and didnt see a script. The way they talked was so unbelievible I couldn't stand it. It could have been thousands of time better but they really sucked. Its like they didnt really try

I think Bass liked it, he said that it was the best of the recent superhero movies he saw (I think), which could mean he liked it or he hated/didn't like it less.

I liked The Punisher...but Hulk? Are you out of your freaking mind?

I liked both...the Hulk was certainly a slower movie, but wasn't bad by any means. Unfortunately its just "cool" among comic fans to dislike the Hulk. It honestly was not a bad movie, much better than Daredevil, and I personally liked it better than the Fantastic Four or any of the Blade movies.

As for the quick Ghost Rider trailer...awesome. I think the transition of the Ghost Rider costume/look is the best adaptation yet from comic to film. Better than Spider-Man, better than the X-Men, better than the Hulk, better than Blade, better than the Fantastic Four, and WAY better than the Daredevil costume. The costume alone is making me look forward to this so much more now, let alone the ****ing sweet flaming bike.

I agree.

I had only two real major problems with The Hulk. One is that it was too damn long, and two, the ending fight scene was just too nonsensical for words. If it were a comic, I hardly think fans would've complained as much.

I hated the film at first, but it was in repeat viewings that I began to appreciate what Ang Lee was trying to do, and the film became an interesting case study of how a decent idea can become too overly taxing on casual moviegoers.

Yup. That about sums it up.
