DreamMOVIE #9 "I HAVE THE POWER!"

Well if everyone's going to complain I'm doing Gargoyles. That was by far my favorite TV show besides X-Men and Batman when I was a kid.

Eh, I like Gargoyles, but I didn't keep too up with it.... and I'd prefer doing a cast that wouldn't just be dudes in full-body suits, or CGI.
Who said these pitches were supposed to be live action?

Why does everybody think these games are just about movies?

This is exactly why I fundamentally dislike the invention of the DreamMOVIE thread, since it is really just a very fast and loose interpretation of 'adaptations/remakes'.

Man, I used to love Gargoyles. I loved the style of the show and it was one of the first serial-cartoons where I was old enough to understand what was going on from week to week (although I've forgotten what it was all about by now).

I distinctly remember Jonathan Frakes as the human bad guy, who wore a Gargoyle exo-suit and was sometimes a good guy. I remember the spunky inquisitive woman in the red jacket and how in the last episode, she kissed the 'main' Gargoyle and it was the coolest thing ever.

If memory serves, this is the only completely serious Disney Animated Series ever (by 'completely serious' I mean, a series without an obnoxious comic relief character).

I just remember thinking that the best part of Gargoyles was Keith David's voice for Goliath. I wanted to use him really bad but I went with actuall Scottish actors instead.

My girlfriend thinks the bestial implications of that show is the hottest thing ever.

What a freak.

I never really followed the Gargoyles animated series, but I wanted that Goliath figure so bad just because he looked so cool in the commercials. Then I got him from my great aunt that birthday and it was absolutely amazing.
I still have those toys.

DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH

DefendersoftheEarth.jpg

Top: Flash Gordon (Simon Baker), Phantom (Jason Statham), Mandrake (Edward Norton), Lothar (LL Cool J)
Bottom: Rick Gordon (Justin Timberlake), Jedda (Anne Hathaway), K'Shinn (A. Yoo), LJ (Columbus Brown)

Premise
Earth's mightiest heroes join forces to stop the intergalactic warlord known as Ming the Merciless.

Plot
The year is 2046. Earth has mastered the skies…and now looks to master the cosmos. Expert test pilot, Flash Gordon, has been chosen to test the newest technological advancement in space exploration---interdimensional accelerated projection (or warp speed in laymen's terms).

The test works. Unfortunately, Flash crashes right into the middle of Ming's impending invasion of far away world, Groondar. The planet served as a key victory and integral base for Ming's expanding empire. With Flash's help, Ming is defeated and the people of Groondar help Flash return home.

But one of Ming's spies reports this info to Ming and in retaliation, Ming decides to follow Flash back home to Earth and conquer it.

Earth, of course decides to fight back. USMC Colonel Lothar Termain is tasked with leading the first wave of defense. But when his platoon is destroyed, Lothar is captured and another plan is devised to rescue him. With Flash having previous experience with the enemy, it's he who is charged with leading the rescue operation while the rest of Earth mounts another offensive strike.

Stowing away on Flash's rescue mission is The Phantom, who has decided to join the fight since Ming's attacks have now begun to target his jungles. After a brief misunderstanding, Flash and Phantom join forces and rescue Lothar. But when their escape plan turns belly up…they are miraculously rescued by Master of Mysticism—Mandrake. With Ming's plans going south, Ming decides to get involved himself.

Trapping our heroic quartet, Ming then turns his attentions to dealing Earth directly.

Learning of their parents' capture and the govt's decision not to mount a rescue mission, the impetuous offspring of Flash, Phantom, Mandrake and Lothar decide to take matters in their own hands. Freeing their parents and joining together to thwart Ming's invasion---the 8 heroes save Earth and decide to join forces together permanently as Defenders of the Earth!

Idea/Reasoning
I wanna take the unconventional premise like Transformers and use this as a huge summer popcorn flick that derives from the original premise and enables the film to go its own route.

Gargoyles

Premise: Ancient Creatures of the Night are reborn in modern day New York City.

Plot: Telling the tale of a clan of warrior creatures known as Gargoyles that turn to stone during the day. Led by their leader Goliath in the year 994 A.D., they protect Castle Wyvern and its resident humans on the coast of Scotland until betrayal causes a massacre of the clan and a magic spell forces the seven survivors into stone sleep, until "the castle rises over the clouds." In present times, a billionaire named David Xanatos purchases the castle and moves it to the top of his New York City skyscraper. The spell is broken when the castle is literally placed above the clouds. Awakening in modern day Manhattan, the gargoyles must adapt to their new surroundings as they vow to protect the citizens of New York.
Initially trusting Xanatos the Gargoyles are betrayed when he seeks to use them for personal gain and their clan member Demona sells them to Xanatos for freedom. Escaping Xanatos' control the Gargoyles are chased through the streets of New York by the NYPD, US military and Xanatos' henchmen. Only through working together can the Gargoyles stop Xanatos and save the last of their species.

Reasoning: A modern day Gothic rendition of MacBeth with gigantic monsters that turn into statues during the day. Make this a story of belonging and seeking justice.

Note: All of the Gargoyles will be in heavy make-up/prostetics, but their faces will be readily visible.

WOW, some of that is awesome. Not crazy about Keira Knightly, though(but that's pretty much the case no matter what she's in). Still though, tons of good to be found there.

Yeah, she was kind of thrown in there because I couldn't think of any Scottish actresses for the role. But I think it'd be awesome to have her be the daughter of Gerard Butler and Helena Bonham Carter.
