Dreamcasting #14 - Seven Soldiers Of Victory

I was going to say it, but everybody jumped down my throat last time, so thank you.
If you mean with Shia LaBouf, you said he couldn't play the part because he wasn't black! His race has nothing to do with how he would act in the part, which is what you were actually saying.

Vigilante- Clint Eastwood
clinteastwood.jpg

Staying in the shadows for the majority of the film and doing narration of each of the character's stories, Vigilante comes to them at the end of the story and tells them why he brought them together. Who better to play the gunslinging, retired member of the Seven Soldiers than Clint Eastwood? No one, that's who.

****. How the hell do you do better than that?

Bass beat me to it, but yeah - perfect.

Shia LeBeouf (or however the **** you spell it) isn't black...
WHAT??

This is news to me.

Anyway, here's my cast. It's not done, but it's close. I'll have choices for (at least) Melmoth and I, Spyder in the next day or two. Without further ado, I present...

SEVEN SOLDIERS OF VICTORY

Zatanna: Selma Blair

025-R16-29o.jpg

In SEVEN SOLDIERS, Zatanna is living in disgrace, too guilt-ridden to get back to being a hero and doing what's right. Through her battle with the Sheeda she finds her confidence again and goes back to doing what she's best at. I feel that Hellboy star Selma Blair could efficiently capture Zatanna's characteristic charm and cleverness while also maintaining a sense of self-imposed vulnerability. Plus, she's a great physical match for the character.

Klarion the Witch-Boy: Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick

omen_narrowweb__300x450,0.jpg

This one was not easy to cast at all. I'm punching myself in the head right now for not thinking of Cameron Bright (bluebeast's choice), who really is just about perfect. I'd go with an unknown, but I already have one of those and doing two unknowns would seem like a bit of a cop-out, I'm afraid. So I'm going with Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick, star of last year's remake of The Omen. "Creepy Kids" are always difficult to cast and Klarion is the hardest of them all. He's both innocent and completely sinister at the same time. Davey-Fitzpatrick could at least come close to this. Plus, if they were actually making this he'd be thirteen or so by the time they start filming, so age wouldn't be a factor.

Frankenstein: Bruce Willis

die_hard-4.jpg

Bruce Willis, mother****ers. Because who's better at playing soft-spoken bad-asses? Frankenstein is a pretty archetypal "tough guy" character, and Willis just seems a good fit for the gun-wielding, undead avenger. And based off of his work in Sin City, I think he'd be fine with the make-up and prosthetics.

Shining Knight: ???

?

I hate to do this once again, but Shining Knight should be an unknown. The fact of the character's true gender being an integral part of her story arc, choosing someone recognizable is out of the question. Not only that, but the role is a difficult one. It requires a young actress who can accurately impersonate a boy, while speaking ancient Welsh and sword-fighting. Not an easy job.

Manhattan Guardian: Jamie Foxx

jamie-foxx-celebrity-photo.jpg

Though he hasn't managed to repeat his Oscar-nominated performance in Ray, Jamie Foxx has certainly proven himself as an actor. He could easily pull off the down-to-earth Manhattan Guardian and his quest to become a hero and redeem himself.

Mister Miracle: Taye Diggs

tayediggs.jpg

No, I'm not trying to rip off bluebeast. I had this one picked last night. Honestly. Taye Diggs is a great match for the world-famous escape artist looking for a purpose. I think he'd suit both Shiloh Norman's public, superstar persona and his tortured private self.

Bulleteer: Famke Janssen

famke.jpg

A choice that should go over especially well with a certain Nexus. (I'm counting on this to immediately win his vote.) The Bulleteer is a woman who's been put through hell and pushed into a life she really never wanted. Other than her hair color (In the X-Men movies, at least), I was drawn to Famke Janssen because I could imagine her playing the victimized but persevering Alix Harrower. And the silver body-paint aspect of the character doesn't hurt either.

Melmoth: John Malkovich

51202020_10.jpg

So Melmoth appears in three different physical incarnations, really. There's old Melmoth, who gets his head blown off by Frankenstein, there's new Melmoth who gets burnt up by Klarion, and then there's crispy, Freddy Krueger Melmoth who gets killed once again by Frankenstein. The Melmoth that we see in Klarion gets the most "panel time", so I'm focusing on that incarnation. I wanted to be careful not to choose an actor who was bald just because they were bald, and you can trust me that that's not why I picked John Malkovich for the role. His face just matches the part. And with his acting skill, I'm sure he could do the grinning, evil ******* that is Melmoth.

Gloriana Tenebrae: Angelina Jolie

angelina-jolie.jpg

Something tells me that choosing Angelina Jolie for any role seems a little cliched at this point, but I'd really like to see her as Gloriana Tenebrae. With the proper make-up, she'd look perfect and I just know that if asked, she could play one great, *****y/scary Sheeda-Queen.

Vigilante: Tommy Lee Jones

3burials.jpg

Maybe it's because I caught some of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada on tv a week ago, but I can't help but imagine Tommy Lee Jones as Vigilante. Remember, Vigilante isn't necessarily the badass, cowboy action hero we'd expect. He's just a humble guy who's done some really strange ****. I think Jones could capture that pretty well.

I,Spyder: Jared Leto

69197537_ph5.jpg

I,Spyder took me forever to cast because I simply couldn't think of an actor who looked enough like the character. Then I decided to look at Thomas Ludlow Dalt, before he was transformed by the Seven Unknown Men. I thought he bore an uncanny resemblance to Jared Leto. And as far as I,Spyder, just take a look at how Leto looks in Requiem for a Dream.

Ok, changed my Shining Knight choice to a female version with Kristen Stewart. Hope that helps.

Zatanna - Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman)
I originally said Emily Deschanel. But **** that.

Klarion - Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine)
Cameron Bright and the Omen kid have already been taken. I think Paul Dano kind of fits Klarion's age better anyway, and he's already shown his acting abilities in LMS. He has the right look for Klarion IMO.

Frankenstein - Ray Stevenson (Rome)
The guy playing Frankenstein doesn't necessarily have to be an Oscar-winning actor, but he does need some acting skill. He also needs to be bulky. Hellboy-level make-up/prosthetics will do the rest.

Shining Knight - Ellen Page (Hard Candy) / James McAvoy (The Chronicles of Narnia)
I'm not quite sure who could play a female "Ystin"/"Justin" (Ellen Page was perfect), but the female Grant Morrison version is supposed to be Celtic. So I kind of merged the two so that Shining Knight is male and Celtic. James McAvoy is Scottish, which is close enough. If SK has to be female though, I would have to go with Page (Taye Diggs has been picked for Mister Miracle twice). Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) would be my second choice.

Manhattan Guardian - Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond)
Chiwetel has already been taken. Plus, look at the picture of Guardian at the top of the page. His face looks exactly like Hounsou's.

Mister Miracle - Rainbow Francks (Stargate Atlantis) / Allen Payne (Blue Hill Avenue)
It was difficult looking for someone who hasn't already been mentioned. Rainbow Francks plays Aiden Ford in Stargate Atlantis.

Bulleteer - Izabella Scorupco (Reign of Fire)
I don't feel very strong about this casting. Yeah, I don't really have much to say about it.

Gloriana Tenebrae - Monica Bellucci (The Matrix sequels)
I don't even know what Gloriana looks like. But Monica Bellucci is so hot.

YOU CAN NOT VOTE FOR THIS ENTRY!

Zee.jpg

Zatanna - Kate Beckinsale

This one was really hard. But I think Kate could pull it off. And she would look hot in fishnets.

Klarion01.jpg

Klarion The Witch-Boy - Elijah Wood

He did a good job playing the creepy Kevin in Sin City and was a great hobbit. I think he would be hell of creepy for this.

Frank.jpg

Frankstein - Mikey Rourke

I tried and trired to think of someone better and couldn't.

Shining Knight - Unknown

I agree with Moony. To be able to pull of the misdirection we would need a real lesser known actor. MAYBE even a set of twins (boy and girl).

Guardian.jpg

Manhattan Guardian - Terrance Howard

Look at him. Family Man. Businessman. He could play every aspect of Jake.

MisterMiracle-1.jpg

Mister Miracle - Wesley Snipe.

The hypercool escape artist. Snipe needs a lighter role after Blade and he really do wonders with this.

Bullet.jpg

Bulleteer - Rose McGowan

While Proj choose her for Zatanna I think she would make a better Bulleteer. She has the body. And she could play the annoyed superhero. Plus imagine her covered in silver...

Melmoth.gif

Melmoth - Robert Englund

This is another Moony thing. When he mentioned the Freddy comment. While not actually get Freddy.

Queen.jpg

Gloriana Tenebrae - Michelle Pfeiffer

If you seen Stardust, than you know she can play the evil *****.

Misty.jpg

Misty Kilgore - Kristen Stewart

Some goth make-up and you got Misty. She would be a great contrast to Kate.

Redskull2.jpg

Ne-Buh-Loh - Ron Pearlman (Voice)

He would be CGI and Pearlman still has one of the most commanding voices.

Darkside.jpg

Darkside - Keith David

The voice of Goliath of Gargoyles and Spawn - TAS. Plus countless movies. He would play the dark god easy.

Viligiante.jpg

Vigilante - Clint Eastwood

This was a given when I decided this round.

ISpyder.jpg

I,Spyder - Nathan Fillion

He would play a perfect cocky dick. And than the redeemed hero.

Seven Soldiers Dreamcast Part One

jessica_biel.jpg

Zatanna – Jessica Biel
This is subject to change. I think Biel fits, but I don't think she's entirely right for the part. I'll figure out whether I want to change it in a bit.

Klarion The Witch-Boy – Unknown
Klarion should be between 13 and 16, and there isn't a single kid I can think of who could pull off the outright creepiness and downright ecstasy of discovering the great big world beyond Limbo Town. But the kid is out there somewhere.

dc2a8b84b.jpg

Frankenstein – Ron Perlman
Ron Perlman would be perfect in this role. Mickey Rourke could do a good job, but at the end of the day, Perlman's a better actor overall… Plus it'll help that he's used to the prosthetics he'll have to use in the role.

BRICK-Nora-Z-image4.jpg

Shining Knight – Nora Zehetner
Nora has that boyish look to her that would obviously play to her advantage towards the beginning of the film where she is under disguise as a man. She's also a fantastic actress.

Viggo_1.jpg

Lancelot – Viggo Mortensen
Viggo is perfect for this role, not only after playing a variation of the character in LotR, but because he has this undercurrent of darkness that would play perfectly into the reemergence of the character as the tool of Gloriana against Sir Ystin.

RMalco.jpg

Manhattan Guardian – Romany Malco
Malco needs to get more recognition in the next few years, he was great in 40 Yr Old Virgin and is consistently great in Weeds, both with the dramatic and comedic material.. and this is the role that could really get him out there, and to top it all off, he'd fit damn near perfectly.

235.png

Ed Stargard – Ed Asner
Obviously this would mostly just be the voice, and I think Ed Asner's voice from the deformed Ancient Baby Brain's body, issuing commands to The Newsboy's Army and the Manhattan Guardian would be beyond perfect.

TheRock.jpg

Mister Miracle – Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
Let me go into this a bit, since I got yelled at a bit for implying that Shia LeBeouif wouldn't be a good choice because he wasn't black, because I think it runs a bit different than that. Shilo Norman isn't the wacky crazy talkative celebrity that I think Shia would turn him into… He's the self-assured, carefree, celebrity whose picture is on the walls of various High School Girls… The Rock isn't that great when he's not essentially playing himself, but this role would be beyond perfect for him… The Super-Celebrity who ends up escaping Death, and helping to save the world, overcoming his own superficiality when he has to face all the negativity in his life.

jeremy%20ironsMTY3Ng==.jpg

Doctor Dezard – Jeremy Irons
Irons has one of the best voices ever, the kind of voice that can really get into your head in that condescending drawl he's best known for as Scar. Perfect for the evil Psychologist who is actually the long time servant of Darkseid, known as Desaad.

michael-clarke-duncan.jpg

Dark Side – Michael Clarke Duncan
Darkseid's Human Form needs to be imposing as hell, with a terrific voice to back it up. I had MCD Pegged for the role of the Master of the Anti-Life Equation from the second I got to work on this casting

julia-stiles-bw.jpg

Bulleteer – Julia Stiles
We all know in our heart of hearts that Julia Stiles can kick our ***, and she knows it too… Put her in the situation of a dissatisfied Housewife who accidentally stumbles upon superpowers and decides to put them to use.

G73171_b.jpg

Super Sally Sonic - Zooey Deschanel
Sally Sonic, the idyllic Pornstar superhero… someone who looks sweet and innocent until she starts kicking your *** to next week. Zooey playing crazy is ****ing fantastic, and give her some superstrength and pit her against a metal-coated Julia Stiles, still bitter that her now-dead husband had considered running away with this woman… Then they confront and have a pretty ****ing awesome battle.

ed-harris-1-sized.jpg

Vigilante – Ed Harris
With that mask, you need somebody who has the eyes, and Ed Harris has some of the most stunningly blue eyes of anybody out in Hollywood.

Gale-Harold-Biography-2.jpg

I, Spyder – Gale Harold
This is a bit of an odd choice, but I can imagine Harold in the I, Spyder costume looking pretty ****ing intimidating, and he's definitely got the Acting Chops, even if nobody else can see that.

logo

Mister Melmoth – Tim Curry
Melmoth is the semi-effeminate, elderly gentleman who comes into the life of young Klarion. Curry could whip up an edge of Dr. Frank N Furter in addition to his more traditional material to be an engaging, but ultimately dangerous old man.

michelle_pfeiffer_11.jpg

Gloriana Tenebrae – Michelle Pfieffer
Hate to steal yet another cast member from another dreamcast, but Pfieffer is perfect for the role.

Mister Melmoth – Tim Curry

Great choice.

I still don't think anyone has gotten Zatanna quite right...I watched Sin City again the other day and I think Alexis Bledel might be able to do it - she definitely has the personality but maybe not the look. The personality is a huge part of it. She's a pretty complex character.

Alright guys, I got my new Wizard today (I'm really impressed with this issue, it's packed with info), and I think I've found my Zatanna. She's playing "Bionic Woman." Her name's Michelle Ryan.
