Death of Ultimate Spider-Man (Feb. 2011)

apparently it's the sinister/ultimate six that are out for Spidey's blood. They've included Vulture this time and GG's back from the dead.

And the more i look into it, the more it seems like UA vs NU doesn't actually tie into the story...

I can't remember where. But I remember reading an intervew with Bendis saying only part of the story will tie in with the "Death Of Spider-Man" story.
 
Wow...

The media were confused when Robin was killed off in 1988, because they didn't understand that it was Jason Todd and not Dick Grayson...

When this story properly breaks into mainstream media; about how there's two separate Spider-Man universes, one where he's a kid and one where he's an adult who recently had his marriage stolen away by the Devil, people are just going to completely disregard comics altogether.

"This is the best version of a crossover; where it's a story that's completely worth it for those who buy both books and there's no punishment whatsoever for those who just want to buy one or the other. I'm a big believer in not making people buy stuff they don't want to buy. We actually think that people are going to end up buying both of these, but we're not relying on that. So there is one important story element that will happen early on in both of our books. It will happen in my book from Spider-Man's point of view and something will happen in Mark's book from the Ultimates' point of view. That's where the stories will collide and veer off until the end," Bendis explained. "So the Spider-Man story is a complete Spider-Man story. If you've never heard of Mark Millar and his fascism [laughs] you'll get a full complete story featuring what I feel is one of the boldest Spider-Man ideas that has come down the pike. Then from Mark you're getting what I think he does better than anybody and that's a story which is as close to 'Ultimate Civil War' as we're going to get. So we found moments for us to clash but at the same time to tell a story that only relies on the story we're telling. Something happens in the first act that causes our tales to veer off into different areas."

I actually appreciate that honesty. He basically says that the stories are related, but you don't need to buy one to understand the other. That's all i wanted to know.

When there's actually a "Part One, Part Two, Part Three" distinction across separate books I definitely think you're supposed to read them all. But I suppose we'll see. This whole event has me nervous. I still bet it "kills off Spider-Man", and has him join The Ultimates full time as a Black-Ops trainee, while his family thinks he's dead.

The two stories should cross in april. There is one issue of each series that month, with the covers depicting Spidey and members of the Avengers or New Ultimates. In May, the Sinister Six apparently enter the fray, and from then on, Peter should have his hands full dealing with those guys.

I do. They're not even starting at the same time, I don't think they're supposed to cross over that much.

There is such a separation for Death of Spider-Man? I wasn't aware of it...

A teenager on the black-ops team of the ultimates? No way. He's going to join the normal ultimates, their team is down to four people now. And it includes the three people who are supposed to be training him. He's probably going to have to change his name and costume to be on the day team. The ultimates don't want his bad rep tarnishing their good name (lol!). Still, he'll be the youngest Ultimate ever, you might even call him a Prodigy. See what I did there?

It makes so much sense!

In the first issue of UA vs. NU, Black Widow and Giant Man (Scott Lang) are recruited to the Ultimates. So there's 6 of them actually.
 
Son of a ****, it IS Norman. I was hoping he'd stay dead. His arc finished so nicely, too...
 
Speaking of bringing people back from the dead, is that Harry standing next to carol?
 
I think it's just a random S.H.I.E.L.D scientist. Death of a Goblin can get away with bringing back one goblin, not the two of them!
 
I'm pretty sure the last thing they're worried about is how many goblins the grammar of the title will allow them to bring back from the dead.

Because Bagley is drawing, and I think he has pretty much decided to re-use his design for Sharon Carter from the Doc Ock/Hammer story. When she first appeared in USM as head of S.H.I.E.L.D, I actually thought she was Sharon.
