Honestly, I have to agree with your assessment,
@Dallas Kinard.
I enjoyed
Man of Steel.
Dawn of Justice was a little on the darker side, yes, but I still enjoyed it too. (Never watched the TC, only the UE.)
Suicide Squad .. not so much. Jared Leto's Joker was frankly uninspiring compared to Heath Ledger's Joker. Still, Margot Robbie did great as Harley and the others were OK.
Wonder Woman ... best of the bunch for me, hands down.
I can understand the reception of
Dawn of Justice spooking WB execs and them wanting to lighten future films up a bit, but they played it far too safe as a result and butchered/abandoned a lot of elements from that film by executive meddling on
Justice League. Zach Snyder doing a page one rewrite - understandable. He likely might have come back and explored some of the elements from the original JL script in the future. From what I've read on the 'Net, I think his revised JL movie would've been a good one anyway (though probably not for the people who already hated
MOS and
BVS before
JL even came out.)
The
Justice League movie we got in theaters was an OK watch for me, but going back and comparing with the early trailers we got before Joss Whedon took over, it's glaringly obvious how much the movie was changed after Snyder departed. It's especially annoying since
Aquaman is said to pick up directly from where Snyder's cut of
Justice League ends.
To put it bluntly, WB shot themselves in the foot by meddling so much on
JL and freaking out a little too much over
BVS' reception; now they're trying to avoid taking any risks and the "connected" universe doesn't really feel connected at all any more. I have all the Blu-Ray's so far from
MOS through
Aquaman, but don't plan on picking up
Shazam or
Birds of Prey.
Wonder Woman 1984 I will get, and after that it depends on where the franchise goes.
