I like the evolution he took in DCAU. He started out as a businessman but when the world caught on that he was evil he pretty much became a mad scientist.

I like the union of the two. Lex Luthor's this guy with a brilliant mind but this thuggish mentality where he looks for every possible opportunity to expand his wealth and power. And when Superman is the obstacle standing in his way, well, mad science seems to be the route for him to go. Even when he is a businessman, he's playing the mad scientist field. It's just sometimes more efficient to slush Lexcorp funds into secret weapons projects rather than trying to perfect the technology by himself.

I like the mix.
I like Lex being a businessman and owning everything and being the King of Metropolis until Superman comes along and after a couple of years of the cat-and-mouse "You can't touch this!" battle, Superman finally gathers evidence to put Lex away and he goes insane and gets a load of insane weaponry and opens up a can of whupass on Metropolis.
