Batman: Arkham City (spoilers!)

Re: Batman: Arkham City

I like that the Penguin character in this game falls somewhere between the classic representation, and the ideas a lot of people were throwing around for a re-booted Penguin in Nolan's third Batman (before we found out Bane, Selina, etc were the characters)--something along the lines of a former British soldier (which I think Zombi coined) now dealing in black market gun-running, etc in Gotham.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

I prefer the Penguin to be an American who speaks in one of those upper-class, almost-british accents like Frasier and Niles Crane(and exactly how Paul Williams voiced him in the Animated series), but this sounds pretty cool. The game seems to be deviating from the general comics continuity and getting comfortable building its own world, which I'm okay with. The monocle not being a monocle but a broken bottle embedded in his face is a little too Todd MacFarlane though.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

The design is pretty forgettable, if you ask me. A lot of the AA/AC designs have just been pompous, over-the-top 90s-esque fan-art and I don't think this is an exception.

The only really innovative design in either of these games has been Scarecrow, I think.

Catwoman's playable!

This Catwoman strikes me as somewhere between very silly and very awesome. I like.
Awesome, I hope this mean coop online challenges or even more playable characters (as a bonus no necessarily taking up story time)
EDIT: Here's an article about it. She's playable during the story, but only for a short time.
Umm, what article?

Re: Batman: Arkham City

So a playable Catwoman... I'm ok with that. But it begs the age-old question...if we're going the Catwoman route, is a co-op Robin such a terrible idea?

To me, no, I'd love to see a Co-Op option. Tho, I believe Rocksteady Games has unfortunately shot that down.

Thats my point, though. There's this strange backlash against the idea of Robin appearing in these games, both in part by fans and Rocksteady themselves...I just wonder why.

Arguments are made that Batman should be a lone wolf, etc. But apparently that isn't the case here...I just wonder what validates certain characters and their purpose in the game over others.

And please don't take this as a complaint, far from it. I guess I'm just trying to dust off the reasoning.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

According to the article link in the comment of the video(which I believe Grocer man was referring to) is you trade off with Catwoman whenever you want in the game and she has her own side story, not co-op. And from what I know from Game programing it's much easier to add a character with a different move set and animation than programing the ability of co-op in the game. There's a lot more fundamental structure to change to allow it. For Rocksteady it's just a matter of whether they want to go through that trouble or not. But that still doesn't leave out the idea of Robin as another trade in like Catwoman, but my bet is they're going with a certain mood and they feel the sidekicks could disrupt that. So personally while I would love to have Robin, Nightwing, and Batgirl I'm fine with them focusing on making the game better. Though I would love to have side stories of them in DLC.

Slightly off topic, but I just wanted to say I did not notice that article, I was referring to a different one that I forgot to link to when I posted. This has been fixed now. I apologize. Carry on.

EDIT: Actually, I just noticed that Catwoman's costume has some tears at certain points in the trailer. Looks like they're taking the "costume gets more damaged as game progresses" idea from the first game and applying it to her.

Re: Batman: Arkham City

I can't decide if I'll buy it for ps3 or wait for Wii-U version

Re: Batman: Arkham City

The fact that the player plays as Catwoman at one point in the game and possibly in bonus challenges doesn't mean Batman's not a "lone wolf", the way an ongoing co-op mode with Robin would.

I didn't know it was only at a certain point in the game. From what I'd read previously, there was no mention it would be a separate story/mission for Catwoman.

This is coming out for the Wii U? I didn't expect that.

Yeah, Rocksteady has said, there's a bit of story where Catwoman has to take over the investigation.

Yeah, Nintendo's finally going to be caught up to this generation, then fall behind in 2013-14 when the 8th gen stuff starts getting announced

To be fair the E3 stuff was demos. A lot sites say the E3 stuff is no where near the consoles true capabilities so it might be able to hang in there with Next box and Ps4. Don't get me wrong in terms of power I'm expecting Ps4> Next Box > Wii-U. But I xbext the difference in power after what a few sites have said to be as small as Xbox > NGN > ps2.

Which is to say not too much. As ps2 games were able to compete with Xbox ones.
