The Godzilla wiki on the Kiryu timeline:

Note: While Godzilla Dictionary [New Edition] does not place Gorath or Dogora in the Kiryu series' continuity, Fantastic Collection - Godzilla: Tokyo SOS confirms the appearances of Maguma and Dogora.[5]

Maguma first appears in 1962 in the Kiryu timeline while the Gorath movie timeline sets itself in 1982, so that doesn't make sense. Also, the moon was destroyed and they literally moved Earth. Gorath probably isn't canon, unless you come up with some really insane explanations. Say, they made a new moon, or they moved to an area that had a perfect moon replica, or magically a new moon started circling the Earth, or something. Meh.

As for Dogora, there's no contradictions I'm aware of. Gorath and Dogora could probably be considered related timelines either way but it's up to you since it's apparently very loose.

About that "Godzilla Dictionary [New Edition]":

1 - It has the strangest name ever. Don't books about in-depth details about a franchise have usually the title "Encyclopedia" instead of "Dictionary"? Like "The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia".

2 - The page on the wiki says that its name is "Gojira Dai-jiten [Shinsō-ban], lit. "Godzilla Great Dictionary [New Edition]"". However, the name "Godzilla Dictionary [New Edition]" is just made up by the wiki, since it has no official English name. But even so, then, why we don't call it "Godzilla Great Dictionary [New Edition]"?

3 - An encyclopedia is just like a more detailed dictionary, you search for something and it tells you what it is (like a dictionary) in more detail.

Putting the 3 facts together I wonder if...

OK, so "jiten" means "dictionary" and "dai jiten" ("great dictionary") just means "encyclopedia".

Should I inform the wiki that they got the name wrong? I am the only one that has noticed?

I think Godzilla vs. Megaguirus is interesting because Toho state that 1954 is canon to it but the film implies that the Oxygen destroyer wasn't used. You could possibly assume that the onscreen events did happen and Godzilla is a different guy/resurrected/healed or Godzilla (1954) isn't canon and different events in 1954 happened. I would kinda rather not list it as canon if it didn't 100% happen, but Toho says it is so it is and you just kinda gotta rationalise it yourself.

As for the other one, well, you only see bubbles cover the skeleton then it disappears. You might be able to get away with saying the current picked up his skeleton rather than it melting into nothingness. At least, that's my explanation.

How are you going to handle the time travel in Godzilla vs. King Ghidora, by the way?
 
Do you want to continue this thread? Since I am not so interested in King Kong/Godzilla right now, I haven't really watched most of the movies yet and I am honestly not planning of spending around 180€ on the Criterion Collection on the foreseeable future.
 
I was planning on helping out with the Showa placements at least, which is already crazy expensive as it is. I'll give it a go when I get my copies.

So the Original King Kong Movie Universe is the Original Planet of the Apes Universe and the Kong of Skull Island Universe contains a local Tarzan (the original novels one?)?

Possibly. The comics have direct flashbacks to the movie in black and white, so it appears to be the film universe version of the events of the books. Don't know how Skull Island survived Son of Kong though.

On Spain's Amazon Prime Video there are 3 versions of King Kong (1933) with different lenghts. Only 2 of them are avalible with the basic suscription and the other one is on a channel. I was so confused since I tought that maybe the difference was on the end credits and maybe one had the dub actors listed and the other not or had the distribution company listed or something like that. But then I tested and the end credits already start at diferent points and the opening credits are the same, so I was confused about the diference between the two cuts. Now I realice that the version that I saw had already the Lost Spider Pit Sequence inserted. From that mess of version I got the 30 chapters listed in the timeline for King Kong (1933). I was planning of buying it in DVD at some point to see if the chapter titles are more "normal" there.

Well, it is true, I am not making it up. Sadly I checked it up and seems that I don't have evidence right now to support my claim, since there is now only two King Kong (1933) releases on Prime Video right now and both are 1:36:00 in length, not the 1:44:00 that I have recorded in this timeline (Funnily one has a classification of +7 and the other one of +13). I can't check right now if they have the scene since I am not subscribed to Prime Video right now.
 
Working on Godzilla (1954) timecodes. There's a very specific August 13th date at the start, so that's helpful.

By the way, the Criterion collection has the American version of King Kong vs. Godzilla as the main cut and the Japanese version as an extra in the 8th disc, oddly. I imagine we're going with the Japanese version as canon for obvious reasons.

It is the Japanese version dubbed? If it is not dubbed it may be because they don't want to put a movie with only subtitles and no English in the main discs.

Only six movies have dubs anyway. Most are just subbed, which... I don't mind, that's more authentic for me.
