There is a rumor now that FOX is developing an X-Force movie because they registered a domain name of "X-ForceMovie.com" three months ago.

I guess it makes sense from Fox's point of view. The X-Men franchise is starting to wear out, at least from the actors' perspectives. Jackman has said he probably won't return as Wolverine after Days of Future Past, though that's not definite. And there will likely be a third in the prequel trilogy, but after that? So it seems they're trying to take the MCU approach and branch out with some varied franchise offshoots. An X-Force movie allows them to take a blank slate approach while still drawing from the existing movies/universe and potentially launching another trilogy based on X-Force.
It'd also be a possible way of testing the waters of the long rumored Deadpool movie's potential for success by including that character as part of the team.

We'll see.

What is the story with X-Force? What is different between it and X-Men? The only stuff I've read is Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force so I know what that is - is that what it's always been?

Yeah, you can say that, for the most part. X-Force has always been the "tough, edgy" team, just originally it was led/put together by Cable.

The difference is that their missions were always the type that required "tougher choices", dealing with situations the X-Men couldn't deal with because they wouldn't cross lines X-Force would. The only difference between the earlier incarnations of X-Force and the last two before the current Cable and X-Force series (the one that Cyclops put together and then the one Wolverine kept going with) is that they weren't the secret, black ops groups.

I hope Deadpool's in it.

But all ****ty costume designs and tangled histories aside, the core premise is strong. An undercover team of mutants combating the militant, conspiratorial threats that endanger their species. Espionage is a genre that really hasn't been that explored in superhero films.

;) I already have a trilogy treatment sketched out in my head.

It won't be an X-Force movie unless Cable has foot high shoulder pads and dozens of ammo belts and pockets. That's the only way to do it.

Also, I hope Boom Boom is in it rocking the green sunglasses and lesbian haircut.

..........

My Boom Boom is probably mostly gay actually.

That's a subnic if I've ever seen one.

I hereby give this my:

Make it so. Maybe shorten it to "My Boom-Boom's a lesbian" or "My Boom-Boom's mostly gay"

So, has anyone considered we might be getting an X-Force based on the Milligan/Allred series? Because that would be KILLER.

I doubt that. I'm sure FOX/Donner want to keep it to the mutants that were part of the first group (which one will be in DofP, another on the list in X2) or the group with Wolverine.

You think Jackman's going to come back for another X-series? I doubt that.

And who's appearing in the new X-Men movie? Cannonball? Somehow I doubt they'll be pegging the next expansion in their franchise's success on a character who's likely to amount to little more than a cameo.

Don't get me wrong. I think the likelihood of X-Statix happening is slim, but I don't think that counter-argument is sound.

He said he would, but he'd have to be convinced on the story or something like that.

Cannonball was on the list in X2. Sunspot is in DofP.

Also, if you want to believe/listen to Liefeld, he's said that no X-Statix version/members of X-Force work will be involved in the movie.

And it looks like the movie is indeed confirmed and more to be expected at SDCC by Jeff Wadlow:

Maybe so. I'd be surprised if he signs for anything more than a couple more solo movies and maybe a few cameos.

I think the best idea (aside from X-Statix which would honestly be the brilliant movie, fresh and distinct from everything in the genre), would be to mix up the incarnations. Take the basic idea of the team and cherry pick characters throughout the years, and let a writer go at it that isn't too precious about their histories. Let's be honest, this book was pretty much ****. Remender's run was solid but so soaked in continuity to make an adaptation hard without a really heavy rewrite.

Do it, say, as Terminator meets Ocean's Eleven. Cable (minus all the convoluted family history) comes back in time from a future dominated by Apocalypse with the intention of recruiting younger versions of his loyal friends in the past, to covertly take out the conspiracies and threats that will spin the world into the dark future he lived in. A Deadpool who's crazy but not yet loyal, a party girl Domino gaming Vegas to live lavishly, her delinquent best pal Boom-Boom, and Psylocke as the only other reasonable professional in the bunch. Teamed up to infiltrate a sentinel/mutant research facility/what-have-you under the Nevada desert. ;) Then go to the World, where Apocalypse was first engineered, for the sequel. That way you can introduce Fantomex.

And I don't know anything about this Wadlow dude (besides that's he's directing KA2) but I'd love to have seen Joe Carnahan as director.
