Spider-Man 3 (discussion and spoilers)

Are you kidding? There will DEFINITELY be a Spider-Man 4, it might be a bit of a reboot, and there might be no Raimi, Maguire OR Dunst, but it's definitely going to happen.

My idea? Start a new trilogy, call 4 "The Amazing Spider-Man" and do a more street based movie with The Kingpin. The big guy can have Electro (looking like his ultimate incarnation, of course, if they even TRIED the 616 look i would personally burn down Sony), and some other low level enforcers, but I'd like to see more of Spidey actually doing stuff that helps the city, rather than fighting people with grudges, or big "everyone is going to die!" villains... Something like the first kingpin USP arc (my favorite bendis spidey arc. period.)... And then toss in the Lizard to spice things up. Maybe he is being funded by Fisk...

I'd like to see each installment stand on its own, but with many of the same faces, let a different director make his mark, show the real versatility of the character.

I can say with some confidence that Spidey 4 won't happen. The makers know this. The Spidey franchise wouldn't have been complete for a large chunk of the fanbase without Venom in some form. It was either Venom-lite, or no Venom at all.

They already announced a second trilogy, plus SM3 broke all kinds of records. There is no way they wouldn't make one. No one is attached yet, of course.

I want to see Kraven's Last Hunt at somepoint.

I'm tired of freaking trilogies.

Spider-Man 4 will happen beyond all Godly certainty, but if it bombs I doubt there'll be a 5 and 6.

Not every movie with two sequels is a trilogy. Why can't it just be a movie with sequels? Spider-Man 1-3 certainly wasn't planned as any type of complete saga.

Yeah, that's what annoys me. Indiana Jones isn't a trilogy. It's three movies. The Matrix isn't a trilogy. The first movie is stand alone and two and three connect to each other. The same situation happened with Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars (though that is open to debate). It annoys me that this is what we call trilogies these days.

I really hope they don't make a fourth movie without Raimi.

I think Raimi's sort of tired himself out with 3. It felt like he had a whole pile of ideas for a further lot of movies and decided to shove them all into one. I'd like a change, as long as they get a good director and a good cast to come along... I have no idea who though.

I agree with almost everything you said. But I hated the struting Peter. It was funny at first but went on for too long.

I felt the entire film went on too long. Same for the first two. I never felt any of these films should exceed 2 hours. 300 was under 2 hours and just how much was in that film? Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, all 2 and a half hours long, and each one ends with a, "Hmm... maybe they'll pick up that sub-plot in the next film."

It's 2 and half hours long, but there is just not 2 and a half hours worth of story. It's an incredbily slow film, with a really plodding pace, masked by lots of CGI action shots. :(

That's my biggest gripe about it. What we got was very good, but it was told badly for my tastes.

And when Spider-Man ran in front of the U.S. Flag, I almost drowned myself in my popcorn. Come on, seriously?

Ugh, I know.

The first film was all post-911 nonsense so we had that awful scene with the New Yorker going, "Hey man! This is New York! You pick on one of us you pick on all of us!" That made me want to burn things.

The second one had a similar scene, with people standing in front of Doctor Ocotopus going, "You want Spider-Man, you got to go through us." And Doc Ock just smiled and pwnd them all. I cheered - that was SO good, and made up for the crappy line in the first film.

The third one - it was just there. It was so obtrusive. :(

Dude - Electro's costume would look wicked in a live-action film. All you do is take the electo-bolts on his mask and bend them backwards. It makes him more sleek and it would look great.

Also, I'd love him to be green and yellow. In Spidey 3 I was pissed off that I could barely make out anyone, the colours were so desaturated. Blech.

If green and yellow looks poopy, make him an Indian. That culture loves outrageous colours (look at Bollywood) and they do phenomenally well.

Actually, Sandman reformed in the comics as part of Silver Sables Wild Pack...

And then went back to crime later. Sandman was, quite possibly, the worst movie villain I've ever seen.

But now that I have some of that out of my system, I would like to say that this is the worst movie I've seen in a long time. And you know what made it worse? This party of 20 black 6-year-olds all ran into the theater, wearing their rich-kid-ghetto cloths. They were all screaming and chanting "Spider-man, Spider-man" and really just being very annoying. Once the movie started, they would continually clap and laugh, until Venom came out. Then they all screamed and cried like little girls. Serves them right.

"The big surprise in the FoxNews.com report is word that one character who appears to die in Spidey 3 might return for Spidey 4. "It turns out I may not be completely dead," the unnamed actor who plays the unspecified character revealed."

(sorry if you've seen it but)

Since Sandman didn't die.

James Franco has said over and over he wont be back (plus was a good guy before film ended)

Venom could be the one to come back. My guess would be if he did have venom and carnage

I hope not. I've had enough Symbiotes. Can't we move on to some other Spidey villains?

I don't think they would. A movie with venom and carnage will equal more $$$ than a Kingpin electro movie. Venom and Carnage appeal much more to the average fan.

I really think Venom's still alive. The smoldering pile of black goo after the flash of explosion was very similar to Ultimate Venom's "death" when he gets electrocuted. No body equals questionable death that can easily be retconned.

Besides I don't think Topher would mind coming back since this is his first Spidey movie. He's not enough of a big name either to be denying a chance in one of the most profitable movie franchises in history. It might give him more time to flesh out his character. I still want him to be a total jerk (which is actually a refreshing experience since all movie villains have been sympathetic ones), but at the same time feeling sorry for him for a bit.

While Sam Raimi was a good director, I think Spidey 3 shows him losing his touch a little. I won't mind a directorial change if it is needed, BUT THEY BETTER LOOK FOR A VERY GOOD REPLACEMENT. Look at the Harry Potter movies, they had three directorial changes and the movies actually got better.

Just to add to my opinion in the movie, I think the 'emo Peter' was done well. He's supposed to look like an idiot, especially if you based it at the repulsed reactions of the girls he points at when he's doing his stupid (and very hilarious) disco walking "look at me I'm so cool" scene. It basically portrays that even his dark side shows that he's still a geek and would never be a 'cool guy' no matter what he does.

Frankly, for me, one of the only redeeming parts of SM3 was Eddie Brock. Don't get me wrong; Venom sucked, but Eddie was great. If they want to take away my dreams of a Kingpin/Electro movie, then fine. But if we end up with a film that has both Brock and Cassady in it, then I want them both to be portrayed as deranged psychopaths. None of this "Venom is a misunderstood hero" garbage. If Cletus Cassady ended up being another "Sandman" archtype villain, I'd probably go crazy. These people are superpowered maniacs, and deserve to be treated as such.

I won't be able to see this until Wednesday at the earliest, but I have one question:

at any point in the movie, is Sandman on screen with the song "Mr. Sandman" playing in the background?

Because I have a bet with a friend about that.

I would absolutely love a Lizard movie, where Peter can't bring himself to stop Connors due to their relationship- so in comes Kraven to show Peter 'how it's done."

Add in a new love relationship, and my brain would explode.
