Hey guys, so basically I'm trying to get back into comics. I haven't read any recently and it's been so overwhelming trying to see where to start. I love spidey, avengers, iron man and would like to get into nova and guardians of the galaxy. But I'm so lost on where to begin, do you guys have any particular jumping in points or just great arcs in general you can recommend?

Well it sounds like any on the Marvel NOW launches from last year would be a good fit for you, especially the latest Iron Man abd Guardians of the Galaxy series.

Yeah, you can just jump on the latest Nova series from #1 and be good from there without really having to read anything before it.

If you want to check out some older cosmic stuff (Nova & Guardians) I would highly recommend the Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest stories. Annihilation has 4 minis and a main series and spins off into a Nova series. Then Annihilation: Conquest has three minis plus the Nova series and a main series and spins off into a Guardians series. It's all really good.

If you're looking into older stuff though, I would highly recommend the marvel comics unlimited digital subscription. Or, you know... Torrents if you don't mind that.

If you're a Spider-Man purist, now's not a great time b/c Peter Parker is dead and Dock Ock is living in his body and masquerading as Peter/Spidey. But if you don't mind something different, just start with Superior Spider-Man #1 and catch up on the last 20 or so issues. I can't really recommend it, but apparently people like it.

Read Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. With Miles Morales as the new Spidy. Also if you want something outside of super heroes I bet most here will agree to read Saga. The 1st issue is free on Comixology.

I got caught up a few days ago. I still find it fun. He's totally becoming a super villain.

Welcome!

I really recommend a book that got me back into comics after I had been out for a few years - Ultimates by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch, followed by Ultimates 2. it is a modern take on the formation of the Avengers and I loved every issue. This site was basically built around that series. There were a couple of limited series that came out after those, some even written by Millar, but I do not recommend them because they aren't good.

I can't think of a good Spider-Man book to recommend because like has been pointed out here already Spidey is in a weird place right now. I suppose if you wanted to track down Amazing Spider-Man 700 and move immediately into Superior Spider-Man you could do that, but I personally think the story sucks right now in addition to being nearly inaccessible to new readers.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (the one written by Brian Michael Bendis) is good right now, but I don't know that there is a good recent jumping on point.

I personally don't care for Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy as they are written at the moment, but if you wanted to get into the current series for each it should be easy enough as they aren't too many issues in.

Uncanny Avengers by Rick Remender is one of my personal favorites and is only 12 issues in, so it's easy enough to be able to pick up and get into and well worth the effort. You'd want to get the whole series; there's a lot going on and you really need to start with #1. it wouldn't hurt to check out Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender, either, as it leads directly into Uncanny Avengers. That series ran about 37 issues I think including extras.

Solid recommendation there - the Annihilation books were really good.

This is a great idea. You can subscribe for I think $10/month and have access to thousands of issues. They add new ones every week and the most recent ones they have are only a few months old.

It's extremely popular; the owner of my local comic shop says that it's his most popular book by far, even more than Walking Dead. But yeah, I agree. I can't stand it.
