Miss Thing? Seriously? Ugh.

"Unlike her teammates, Miss Thing is very new to the superhero world. Each member of the Fantastic Four was tasked with picking someone to join the FF before they leave on a year-long trip, and Miss Thing was the Human Torch's choice. As Fraction put it in a recent interview with USA Today, "Johnny spaces it because he's Johnny," so he chooses the "Lohan-esque celebutante blonde" he just happens to be with the night before he and his teammates leave. "She's the regular person, she's the human, she's the overwhelmed 'Whaaa?' of it all," says Fraction."

Mike Allred is awesome. Genius. Fantastic. Ejaculation-inducing. Every positive adjective ever invented.

And FF and Allred seem like the perfect fit for the sort of gonzo craziness Fraction brings to his creator owned stuff. This book is a much better fit for his style than any of the stuff he's worked on at Marvel in the past.

This may be the new Marvel book I'm most excited about.

I guess the "gonzo craziness" is what I'm having a hard time with. It's not a "gonzo crazy" book. I mean, it's basically a school. I wouldn't classify anything that has happened in the book as "gonzo crazy". Why not just create a new book instead of such an abrupt change of direction? It makes no sense. Especially since aren't they just relaunching/renumbering it anyway?

Dude, I don't care about the title. I'm saying the premise seems like a great fit for Fraction and Allred. I don't give a **** what they call it.

I do, and I imagine other people who are reading the book do.

The premise sounds interesting or cool or funny or whatever, but it doesn't fit what has been established on this book.

Okay.

Buy the book and draw whatever title you want on the cover!

Sorry. I'm a snarky bastard. :D I see it like this. Hickman tends to be all about the finite stories. It strikes me that having someone continue a story in the same vein as his, when he considers it wrapped, is a little insulting.

Ideally, should they change the title? Yeah, sure. But we know how the industry works. They love holding on to titles. They love driving up the numbering and playing to people's nostalgia. And this kind of complete tonal change happens all the time, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. See Punisher running around as Frankenstein or the succession of sometimes miserable/sometimes successful whiplash shifts that happen with Thunderbolts. Or, Hell, SUPREME.DOOM PATROL. They want to keep the name and if it gives us a fresh spin on an old concept with beautiful Allred art, I say don't sweat the title.

What's the point of nostalgia if the new and old versions don't have anything to do with each other?

And if the concern is offending Hickman by continuing his story, that's even more reason they should just launch it as a new book.

I'm really not sweating it; it just seems stupid. If you are doing something new, call it something new so that people used to the old aren't disappointed or confused or angry (besides that it just plain makes sense). That's all.

I dig Allreds' art. I just think the idea for Miss Thing is epically stupid and looks dumb also. With that dumb suit on it looks like someone (one of the wrecking crew perhaps?) could literally "sh*t down her neck".

Miss Thing sounds like one of those things I hate and think is stupid the first time I hear it then end of loving, so I'm holding off commenting on that.
