Captain America Vol. 5 by Ed Brubaker discussion (SPOILERS!)

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

That, and the issue is selling out fast, has already 2 different variants, and is being given out at Wizard World Philly for V.I.P. packages.

Right. You have a bunch of speculators buying up issue 25 to sell on EBay. That's not going to do anything for long-term sales.

Yes it will.

People will keep buying and a lot them will keep buying to sell.

They do this because it's to gather new readership. To get people who don't read comics to read them. Gathering new people will equal to more people buying comics. Will most drop out equaling to sales dropping here and there? Yes, there's that chance. Which is the same for already reading comic people. But that's always going to happen so that's something. And that's why you promote. Keep people interested and interest new people.

You get people talking about it, you're already succeeding. With that, someone will always check it out. Hell, one of my professors who hates comics was even talking about it.

Getting the news outlets to talk about your comic book for two days isn't going to substantially boost the market for comic book sales. I really don't buy that reasoning. Marvel needs to do some positive promoting instead of this "Uh-oh! Look what we did!" bull****.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

I don't think this will make people buy the comic. It's as if there were a big news story about how in the last stages of American Idol, one of the favorites had been eliminated, or if Jack Bauer died on 24. It'll get people talking a bit, but mostly people who already are interested in comics. Why would someone see a news story and say "Oh, look, Captain America is dead. Wow, suddenly I want to buy lots of Marvel comics."

**** you. All of you leave my beautiful Captain America thread.

Whether or not it actually works, that is the purpose of this all. It may not boost sales dramatically, but it will work one way or another.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

Ted Kord got shot in the head too

But, who says this won't make a good story? We haven't finished reading the story yet. don't judge it before it's put out.

We aren't arguing whether or not the story is or will be good.

Work how? By selling a few extra copies of a single issue? Is that really worth it?

And possibly get newcomers hooked. Remember Stan Lee's greeting "Welcome true believers and newcomers alike"

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

And I say let them. They do it for to gather new readers, because for them, it *will* be fresh and new. Not for long time readers, but for those they want to bring into the comic medium.

ok, i can see that being a reason for a good starting point. Still, I feel they could have gone the extra mile in doing so. Maybe pump a little more money to put ads in magazines and such, not just comics.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

Even if this does get people into comics, which I already said I don't think it will, do you really want Civil War to be their introduction into Marvel? Even if you're one of the people who like it, you have to admit it's not their typical fare.

It may not get the number of people they would hope for, but there'll still be some here and there who will come in.

And this is just a thought, but probably for those who have them come in and have CW as their intro, they'll ask questions wanting to know more, and get pointed here, there, and everywhere. Of course, there will be people who will say forget it and not bother, but that of course is expected to happen.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

When kids go to places like universal studios now and see captain America are the going to think Zombie!!!!!!!?

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

i hate to say it, but post-civil war is the PERFECT time to jump into Marvel comics for a newbie

A) end-of on era, and the beginning of another
B) lot's of new books, and books with new creative team's
C) lot's of characters are being reintroduced or reivigorated

CW wasn't the greatest story but it is a large shake-up, and new readers are the ones who will benefit the most

Wasn't that the point of the ultimate universe?

Actually that's true because I came in around HoM and my first title was young avengers. Then I progressed from there.

Re: Captain America series discussion (SPOILERS!)

meh I didn't like the new marvel universe, made me drop many books.
But I'm interested in New Warriors, Hulk and Punisher.

no really

A) ultimate universe didn't build off the end of anything
B) there was only one book at the beginning, only 4 or 5 books now
C) i'll give you C
