Also, yeah, I've watched Akira. Haven't read the manga though, but I will say that the movie does have a different ending since the manga was still ongoing at the time. There's also another anime in the works that'll be a more faithful adaptation of the manga, but IDK when it comes out.

For context, you have the original 2003-2006 Death Note manga, and then the following: 2006-2007 Anime adaptation, which is arguably the most faithful of the adaptations, barring some changes in the second half such as 2006-2016 Live-Action movie/miniseries series, the first two movies...

And DON'T get me started on Death Note and all the various adaptations. There's too many to even count.
