I think the 4th and Jiriya's similar apperance could be like Guy/Rock Lee's relationship. I doubt Jiriya and Tsunade would have acted like they did or do toward Naruto if he were their grandson. Doesn't mean Jiriya isn't a distant relative of Naruto through his father, though.

I, after seeing a picture of the 4th Hokage and the physical similarities he had with Naruto, began believing that the 4th Lord was the father of Naruto. It fits with the fact we hardly know anything about him in backstory or even name.

It isn't a rule but all anime is usally a comic first. From what I know they both are pretty much the same except the comic does not have the filler arcs.
