Timeline Reasoning

Sonic Comic Act: 024 Hide-and-seek:
Happens in the period 3.000 years ago where Tikal, the Chao and Chaos are playing peacefully . For that reason I would recommend in your first time to read after playing Sonic Adventure.
Sonic the Hedgehog:
The first game. The placement of the Special Zones has been posted just in the first time that they are capable of being completed.
It also happened in some way the Archie Sonic Post-Super Genesis Wave Prime Zone and could have happened in the Another Place Another Time Universe and the Second Genesis Wave altered realities.
Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit):
It could be at any point in the Classic Era. Put here because of release dates.
Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car: Features Sonic as a police officer patrolling when Robotnik arrives and starts to throw bombs at him until Sonic destroys his car and Robotnik goes away.

I could just pretend that it happens in a parallel universe were Sonic is a cop. I guess it should take place after Sonic Learns to Drive since in that story, well, Sonic learns to drive.
Sonic the Hedgehog CD:
Released between 2 and 3, but starting production after 1, it has been a heated debate for years whether it happens before Sonic 2 or after Sonic 3 & Knuckles, given that the ending of Sonic 2 leads directly into the beginning of Sonic 3, so the game apparently cannot happen in its release order. But all those years of debate ended when Sonic Origins confirmed that it does happen between 1 and 2. The way the game presents itself as a sequel to CD via a flashback has 2 mistakes: 1 the characters are shown as their modern iterations instead of the classic ones and 2 Metal Sonic is shown as having been lying around "dead" in Little Planet since his defeat at the end of Sonic CD but he has been shown repeatly in Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic Mania, Sonic R and Sonic the Fighters, Sonic Mania Adventures and the IDW comics as being alive and in Earth. It's called "Sonic The Hedgehog" just like the first game. Hence the 2006 to differentiate them, which is why most people call it Sonic '06. It seems that the idea was to make a Sonic Adventure 3 but apparently it failed miserably. I personally think the bugs are the worst part, the plot is nonsense, but no more nonsense than other games in the timeline. It features time travel, but has the typical plot hole in time travel stories that introduces conflicting time travel rules. Shadow's story states that time runs in a loop, while Silver's story states that the timeline can be changed. Sonic's history is a bit ambiguous. The final story also follows Silver's story rules of time travel as the characters travel 10 years into the past and seemingly erase all the game events from history, well, except the last scene, in the new timeline. The characters apparently don't remember anything from the previous timeline, and the rest of the games seem to have happened the same way, so it's not worth creating a new timeline section in the thread. It also seems to have happened in both Archie Sonic Prime Zone timelines and probably happened in the Another Place Another Time Universe and the Second Genesis Wave altered realities.

There was an army of evil echidnas in the Archie Comics who were enemies of the tribe Knuckles belongs to. One day Archie or Sega fired the comic book writer. I don't know if this was after or before the Sonic Chronicles game was produced, but the villains in the game are clearly an adaptation of the evil echidnas from the comic. After the writer left, the judge ruled that Sega or Archie can't use the characters he made for the comic without his approval. Apparently, fearing a lawsuit, Sega hasn't released a Sonic Chronicles sequel because, while they technically can, they can't use the villains that are clearly pastiches of Archie Comics villains. So the game might be canon, but you can't reference it, which is, technically, the point of continuity. If the game is canon, it continues the plot of Sonic Battle. If considered canon I have placed it at the end since it ends in an unresolved cliffhanger and every now and then people remind Sonic that he changed the world after it was conquered by Eggman in Sonic Forces, so, if they would have saved the world off screen after Sonic Chronicles you would think that people would have start to refer to Sonic and his friends as the saviors of the world since then.

OK, lets be honest, the flags are either a mistake or they just didn't care since this was a tie-in to the 2012 Olympic Games and Mario & Sonic in the London 2012 Olympic Games (but it didn't featured Mario characters).

About Classic Sonic:
It was never explained if the Sonic Adventure redesigns implied that the characters grew up or if they just changed artstyles. Sonic Generations made it so that Classic Sonic is past Sonic and Modern Sonic is present Sonic, so, the implication seems to be that he has grown up in-universe from his classic design to his modern design. At the end of the game Classic Sonic and Tails go back to the past.

With Sonic Mania we are lead to either believe that it is a new divergent timeline after Sonic Generations, or that its events had always happened in the past. But then the true ending kicks in and it ends with the Phantom Ruby and the Emeralds opening a portal that sucks Sonic and the Ruby to the present. The same Ruby that appears in Sonic Forces. According to the prequel comic, literally the Ruby lands in Eggman door. Classic Sonic lands 6 months later, for some reason. When Classic Sonic appears, both Eggman and Tails refer to him as a "Sonic from another dimension". Since Sonic sees Classic Sonic trough a crystal in Sonic Generations and both seem to confuse the other Sonic with their reflections, some people think that the 2 Sonics look the same in-universe and that the diferent artstyles are just there for the benefit of the audience. The general consensus seems to be that after Generations the timeline split because of the knowledge that Sonic, Tails and Eggman adquire of the future and that Classic Sonic's Universe is a split timeline.

However, in a recent interview the writer of the IDW comics and current games and ex-writer of the Archie Sonic comics (not the one that they fired and ended in bad terms with SEGA, that was the previous one) said that according to SEGA the worlds of Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are the same once again, although for marketing porpoises the characters are going to be separated between "Classic" and "Modern" eras, so he is not allowed to use Modern characters in Classic games and viceversa. Taking that information into account then the Sonic timeline is a single timeline meaning that characters already experienced the time travel games in their past. If you have the question of why Modern characters don't know about the plot of Generations if they have already experienced it, I don't know, the Post-Super Genesis Wave Timeline in the Archie Comic universe had a Sonic CD adaptation where Sonic comes back from Generations to the plot of Sonic CD and starts to forget his adventure in Generations, so, even if it is a different universe (and possibly multiverse too) we can extrapolate the explanation. That raises the question of why he remembers Generations in Forces, so, maybe the universe lets he remember time travelling memories when he is in another time period or he holds on the memories from the entirety of Mania and Forces and later he forgets.

That stills leaves the question of why Tails and Eggman referred to Classic Sonic as Sonic from another dimension, but whatever.

Basically the wikis differentiate between Classic Sonic's Universe, Sonic's Universe, Classic Sonic's Universe (IDW) and Sonic's Universe (IDW) but I just consider them to be the same.

Eggman Nega, Blaze and Silver
Silver is pretty straightforward. He is from the future of Sonic 2006, and, after the events of the game erase themselves from history, the version of him that appears from Sonic Rivals onward is the version from the new timeline that was created.

Eggman Nega appears as an alternate Eggman from another universe in Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure but as a descendant of Eggman from 200 years on the future (Silver's time period) in Sonic Rivals and Rivals 2. Blaze is from the 200 years into the future in Sonic 2006 and another dimension in the Sonic Rush series. Note that the release order is Sonic Rush, Sonic 2006, Sonic Rivals, Sonic Rush Adventure and Sonic Rivals 2, complicating matters further.

Despite what some people suggest, Blaze doesn't know Sonic in Sonic 2006 or Sonic Rush. Some people have the weird contrived theory that since Blaze seals herself in another dimension at the end of Sonic 2006 (but before the timeline is reseted) she then appears in the dimension from Sonic Rush, sometimes the theory adds that she leaved Iblis behind in the alternate dimension and it is Ifrit from Sonic Rivals 2 and then she leaved for the regular Rush dimension. That has a very big inconsistency since she is a princess in her home dimension, meaning that not only she is supposed to be from that dimension, but her ancestors too. Maybe the timeline reset didn't reach her properly because she was in a different universe but rewrite history enough to made the new dimension "adopt" her? Crazy theories aside, Takashi Iizuka said in Sonic Boom 2012 that Blaze is from another dimension and Eggman Nega from the future. Iizuka is not the most trustable source of Sonic canon, but in lack of a better explanation I would say that I have no idea of the whole Blaze thing in Sonic 2006, but Eggman Nega is possibly from the future and he is just a liar because, I don't know, he is evil. So since he is an enemy of Eggman in the Sonic Rivals series but an ally of Eggman in the Sonic Rush series and since it is harder to transition from enemy to ally that from ally to enemy I guess they just had an argument after the Sonic Rush Adventure final boss and became enemies in Rivals. So it goes like this:

The Archie Sonic comic is so crazy. It started as some kind of adaptation of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic SatAM cartoons.
With the Sonic Adventure release as with the video games SEGA mandated that the comics must stick closer to the Japanese version of the games, so all of the comics started to include contrived coincidences that start to make characters resemble their video game counterparts (Sonic mutates by contact with the Master Emerald and grows and develops irises, Amy wishes to be 16 years old to a magic ring and she grows up, Eggman changes to a robotic body identical to his modern game counterpart, etc) with this the adaptation of Sonic Adventure can develop much closer to its game counterpart (But still with some concessions, like the Master Emerald being adapted as the Black Emerald, since the comic Master Emerald was shown as being created some issues before instead of being +3.000 years old). Starting with Sonic Shuffle the comics include tie-ins that tell the start of a video game and then include an add like "Do you want to know how the story ends? Find out in the video game" so it is implied that some version of the video game happens in that point in the timeline since the regular plot just resumed in the next issue.

In some USA shops there was an exclusive version of the Sonic and the Secret Rings video game that came with a second disc that included the Sonic and the Secret Rings comic tie-in in "motion comic" format. That leaves ambiguous if the comic is supposed to be set in the Video Game or Archie Comics continuity since it was given as a compliment to the game but it is made by Archie Comics. I am just including it in both timelines since the plot of the game involves Sonic being summoned to another world, saving it and returning to his universe, so, it could happen in any universe, since the main universe is not shown, so this could be any Sonic.

Starting with Sonic and the Black Knight until Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed all tie-ins start the stories with a narrator saying: "In Another Place, In Another Time". The Archie Sonic wiki interprets that as meaning it takes place in an alternate universe literally called "Another Time, Another Place". It seems pretty obvious that the literal meaning of the term just seems to be that the stories are supposed to take place in the main Archie Sonic universe in another time in another place AKA just in a place in the continuity were they can fit, since the writers just decided to not bother with bizarre explanations of how events line up to the video game ones so that the video game can take place at a different point in time. (Although the presence of video game Classic Sonic design in Sonic CD seems to imply the wiki explanation since Classic Sonic in the comic featured its Western classic design). Weirdly, the Sonic and the Black Knight adaptation is considered to take place in the main Archie Sonic universe since it also features Sonic travelling to a parallel universe and returning later and thus it can take place in any universe at nearly every time (So they admit here that the rest of the In Another Time Another Place events could just be part of the regular universe if they can find a place for them to fit in the timeline?) There is also the possibility that the ATAP universe is just the video game universe (or even that the video game universe is the alternate zone to the comic main zone, but that leaves the implication that it was destroyed by the Super Genesis Wave, oops).

Oh, yes, did I mention it the Archie comic from as early as issue 9 included alternate universes (yey!). In reality most of them are just joke universes that just get shown one time and are parodies of other franchises like Godzilla or Sailor Moon. However, the Sonic Underground cartoon and the Sonic X anime are shown to be parallel versions of the Archie Comic universe, so I have included them in the Archie comics section (It would not be much of a wild guess to put Sonic SatAM, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Movie [the anime OVA, not the recent live action movie] in the old Archie multiverse, since they seem to fit with the tone of that "old adaptations universe" and like the other 2 they are probably never going to be visited again, so no contradictions, but I am not putting them there since they are not officially part of it)

Just in time for the 20th anniversary of the Sonic franchise Eggman launches a special reality warping wave called Genesis Wave with the power of one Chaos Emerald that reshapes the entire comic universe, making it transform into an adaptation of Sonic 1 (But the SatAM/Archie Comics exclusive characters are involved in it and every one is its modern designs, not the classic ones). After 2 or 3 issues Sonic remembers the true reality and with the power of Super Sonic he re-rewrites reality back to normal. Somehow it was all part of Eggman plan or something.

Then since SEGA and Archie were in a legal battle against the former Archie comics writer for the ownership of the characters created by him they decided to reboot the comic without his characters. But they did it DC Comics style, with a cosmic crisis ending in a in-universe reboot.
Somehow the blue Chaos Emerald ended transported to the Mega Man Archie Comics universe (that we assume is just a separate universe from its game counterpart, like in the case of Sonic) that is revealed to be in a different multiverse. Doctor Wily and Doctor Eggman team up and discover that if they can launch a Genesis Wave but with all seven Chaos Emeralds instead of one (called Super Genesis Wave) they can reshape the universe without limitations. They want to use it to make themselves gods and make Sonic and Mega Man either been erased or their robotic slaves. To this end they launch one regular Genesis Wave to test their machine (I think, I don't really understand why they do that.) that makes the Archie Sonic universe transform in what seems to be essentially the video game universe and the Archie Mega Man jump forward in time to after the events of the recent games (The real world explanation is so that the Mega Man universe is jumped forward since it was still adapting Mega Man 3 and this way the Doctors can use the robots from recent games in the crossover since they already exist in the universe and for Sonic Archie the cast after the Wave doesn't show the SatAM characters, so readers that are going to read the crossover without having read any Archie Sonic comics and are just there for the crossover between video game characters can just be made to think that this could happen in the video game universe).

Finally the Doctors launch the Wave that slowly is changing the universes. Sonic and Mega Man transform into Super Sonic and Super Mega Man and try to stop the waves making a reverse-Wave with their powers. Mega Man succeeds and his reverse-Super Genesis Wave overrides the SGW and reverts the regular Genesis Wave, making everything revert to the point before the launch of the wave (well, not really, since Doctor Wily conversations and experiments with Eggman are erased, so, the timeline for Wily gets changed a bit) but Super Sonic its interrupted by Eggman when he is reverting the SGW and the regular Wave, so, the universe gets improperly rebooted and after they wake up the entire universe has changed permanently. Now it seems that the majority of video games had taken place here except some notable exceptions like Sonic Unleashed (Sonic Generations happened but the time-travel to the events of Unleashed was a travel to the future instead of the past) but with the Archie characters involved.

The entire multiverse is revealed to have been destroyed and recreated, since the Prime Zone (the Archie Comics universe) was the center of the multiverse (RIP Sonic X and Underground characters). Somehow Blaze's Dimension was made immune of the changes because it contained the Jeweled Scepter. Also the entire planet absorbed and released the energy of all this process so it gets fragmented and the story of Sonic Unleashed is adapted here. Also some random portals called Genesis Portals start to pop up in the Archie Sonic and Archie Mega Man multiverses that lead to the next crossover.

The Sonic Boom comics where created in this multiverse, so the Sonic Boom franchise takes place in here. Note that the Sonic Boom TV show offers that rule of "one character and its alternate universe counterpart cannot remain in the same universe for too long or it will implode" that never gets referenced in the Archie Comics crossovers, so it could be that the games + TV show are one continuity and the games + comics are another, but for the sake of simplicity lets just add it to the Archie multiverse.

And then the Archie Comics where suddenly cancelled. Now the current comics are in IDW and have nothing to do with the old ones (The writers, pencilers, etc are the same, but the stories have no in-universe link).

Timeline Reasoning

Sonic Comic Act: 024 Hide-and-seek:
Happens in the period 3.000 years ago where Tikal, the Chao and Chaos are playing peacefully . For that reason I would recommend in your first time to read after playing Sonic Adventure.
Sonic the Hedgehog:
The first game. The placement of the Special Zones has been posted just in the first time that they are capable of being completed.
Sonic Generations happened in the Another Place Another Time reality so it is implied this happened too.
It also happened in some way the Archie Sonic Post-Super Genesis Wave Prime Zone and could have happened in the Another Place Another Time Universe and the Second Genesis Wave altered realities.
Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit):
It could be at any point in the Classic Era. Put here because of release dates.
Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car: Features Sonic as a police officer patrolling when Robotnik arrives and starts to throw bombs at him until Sonic destroys his car and Robotnik goes away.

I could just pretend that it happens in a parallel universe were Sonic is a cop. I guess it should take place after Sonic Learns to Drive since in that story, well, Sonic learns to drive.
Sonic the Hedgehog CD:
Released between 2 and 3, but starting production after 1, it has been a heated debate for years whether it happens before Sonic 2 or after Sonic 3 & Knuckles, given that the ending of Sonic 2 leads directly into the beginning of Sonic 3, so the game apparently cannot happen in its release order. But all those years of debate ended when Sonic Origins confirmed that it does happen between 1 and 2. It has time travel but is never specified how much time does Sonic travel and he doesn't interact to anything outside of Little Planet so it doesn't create any divergent timelines.
Sonic has a flashback to it in the Sonic 4 Episode II prequel comic.
It also happened in the Archie Sonic Post-Super Genesis Wave Prime Zone and the Another Place Another Time Universe and could have happened in the Second Genesis Wave altered realities.
Tails Adventure:
Could be at any point before Sonic 2, because it is supposed to be before Sonic met Tails. That is according to the Japanese manual, that I am guessing it is the canon one, the English manual says that it is just Tails enjoying a vacation.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit):
Placed here by release order. Since the manual/intro (only in Sonic Origins) of the 16 bit version details how Sonic meet Tails this game has to be after that but before the main game or after Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
It also happened in some way in the Archie Sonic Post-Super Genesis Wave Prime Zone and could have happened in the Another Place Another Time Universe and in the Second Genesis Wave altered reality.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2:
Sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog, where Tails makes his debut. The manual describes how Tails met Sonic, but thankfully, the Sonic Origins intro cutscene for the game recreates the scene in animated format.
Sonic Generations happened in the Another Place Another Time reality so it is implied this happened too.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles:
Composed of 2 games: Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, they have a special technology where one cartridge can fit into the other and therefore you can play the games separately or connected, with cutscenes connecting the two games. Standalone 3's final cutscenes makes it impossible for the & Knuckles plot to happen, so the canon version is the connected version.
Sonic Generations happened in the Another Place Another Time reality so it is implied this happened too.

According to Ian Flynn this game is currently off limits, not even been allowed to a mention in Sonic Encyclo-speed-ia. Probably licensing issues. That makes its canonicity questionable. Still, it has to be in a bridge between the Classic and Modern Eras since it features artstyles fro the two. In reality I think someone (Eggman?) changes artstyles in the middle of the game, so probably is jut a case of reused assets instead of a conscious decision.
Sonic Generations:
Since it features Tails is assumed that Sonic is pulled from a point after Sonic 2, but it can't be between 2 and 3 because they are consecutive. Well, maybe that is not true, they could be pulled from the middle of one game and be returned to exactly the same spot, in fact Eggman seems to be pulled from the Death Egg battle. It could also be that Eggman is pulled from the Death Egg battle, Sonic is pulled from before Sonic 2 or after Sonic 3 and Knuckles Metal Sonic is pulled from the boss battle at Stardust Speedway and Tails is pulled from any point in the Classic Era.

The way the game presents itself as a sequel to CD via a flashback has 2 mistakes: 1 the characters are shown as their modern iterations instead of the classic ones and 2 Metal Sonic is shown as having been lying around "dead" in Little Planet since his defeat at the end of Sonic CD but he has been shown repeatly in Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic Mania, Sonic R and Sonic the Fighters, Sonic Mania Adventures and the IDW comics as being alive and in Earth. It's called "Sonic The Hedgehog" just like the first game. Hence the 2006 to differentiate them, which is why most people call it Sonic '06. It seems that the idea was to make a Sonic Adventure 3 but apparently it failed miserably. I personally think the bugs are the worst part, the plot is nonsense, but no more nonsense than other games in the timeline. It features time travel, but has the typical plot hole in time travel stories that introduces conflicting time travel rules. Shadow's story states that time runs in a loop, while Silver's story states that the timeline can be changed. Sonic's history is a bit ambiguous. The final story also follows Silver's story rules of time travel as the characters travel 10 years into the past and seemingly erase all the game events from history, well, except the last scene, in the new timeline. The characters apparently don't remember anything from the previous timeline, and the rest of the games seem to have happened the same way, so it's not worth creating a new timeline section in the thread.

There was an army of evil echidnas in the Archie Comics who were enemies of the tribe Knuckles belongs to. One day Archie or Sega fired the comic book writer. I don't know if this was after or before the Sonic Chronicles game was produced, but the villains in the game are clearly an adaptation of the evil echidnas from the comic. After the writer left, the judge ruled that Sega or Archie can't use the characters he made for the comic without his approval. Apparently, fearing a lawsuit, Sega hasn't released a Sonic Chronicles sequel because, while they technically can, they can't use the villains that are clearly pastiches of Archie Comics villains. So the game might be canon, but you can't reference it, which is, technically, the point of continuity. If the game is canon, it continues the plot of Sonic Battle. If considered canon I have placed it at the end since it ends in an unresolved cliffhanger and every now and then people remind Sonic that he changed the world after it was conquered by Eggman in Sonic Forces, so, if they would have saved the world off screen after Sonic Chronicles you would think that people would have start to refer to Sonic and his friends as the saviors of the world since then.

Archie Sonic the Hedgehog #242: [Olympic Trials]: Sonic and his friends participate in an Olympic Trial and it shows some real world flags so it is somehow implying that the In Another Place Another Time reality countries are the same as Earth, but Sonic Unleashed also took place here. Mmmm... OK, lets be honest, the flags are either a mistake or they just didn't care since this was a tie-in to the 2012 Olympic Games and Mario & Sonic in the London 2012 Olympic Games (but it didn't featured Mario characters).

About Classic Sonic:
It was never explained if the Sonic Adventure redesigns implied that the characters grew up or if they just changed artstyles. Sonic Generations made it so that Classic Sonic is past Sonic and Modern Sonic is present Sonic, so, the implication seems to be that he has grown up in-universe from his classic design to his modern design. At the end of the game Classic Sonic and Tails go back to the past.

With Sonic Mania we are lead to either believe that it is a new divergent timeline after Sonic Generations, or that its events had always happened in the past. But then the true ending kicks in and it ends with the Phantom Ruby and the Emeralds opening a portal that sucks Sonic and the Ruby to the present. The same Ruby that appears in Sonic Forces. According to the prequel comic, literally the Ruby lands in Eggman door. Classic Sonic lands 6 months later, for some reason. When Classic Sonic appears, both Eggman and Tails refer to him as a "Sonic from another dimension". Since Sonic sees Classic Sonic trough a crystal in Sonic Generations and both seem to confuse the other Sonic with their reflections, some people think that the 2 Sonics look the same in-universe and that the diferent artstyles are just there for the benefit of the audience. The general consensus seems to be that after Generations the timeline split because of the knowledge that Sonic, Tails and Eggman adquire of the future and that Classic Sonic's Universe is a split timeline.

However, in a recent interview the writer of the IDW comics and current games and ex-writer of the Archie Sonic comics (not the one that they fired and ended in bad terms with SEGA, that was the previous one) said that according to SEGA the worlds of Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are the same once again, although for marketing porpoises the characters are going to be separated between "Classic" and "Modern" eras, so he is not allowed to use Modern characters in Classic games and viceversa. Taking that information into account then the Sonic timeline is a single timeline meaning that characters already experienced the time travel games in their past. If you have the question of why Modern characters don't know about the plot of Generations if they have already experienced it, I don't know, the Post-Super Genesis Wave Timeline in the Archie Comic universe had a Sonic CD adaptation where Sonic comes back from Generations to the plot of Sonic CD and starts to forget his adventure in Generations, so, even if it is a different universe (and possibly multiverse too) we can extrapolate the explanation. That raises the question of why he remembers Generations in Forces, so, maybe the universe lets he remember time travelling memories when he is in another time period or he holds on the memories from the entirety of Mania and Forces and later he forgets.

That stills leaves the question of why Tails and Eggman referred to Classic Sonic as Sonic from another dimension, but whatever.

Basically the wikis differentiate between Classic Sonic's Universe, Sonic's Universe, Classic Sonic's Universe (IDW) and Sonic's Universe (IDW) but I just consider them to be the same.

Eggman Nega, Blaze and Silver
Silver is pretty straightforward. He is from the future of Sonic 2006, and, after the events of the game erase themselves from history, the version of him that appears from Sonic Rivals onward is the version from the new timeline that was created.

Eggman Nega appears as an alternate Eggman from another universe in Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure but as a descendant of Eggman from 200 years on the future (Silver's time period) in Sonic Rivals and Rivals 2. Blaze is from the 200 years into the future in Sonic 2006 and another dimension in the Sonic Rush series. Despite what some people suggest, Blaze doesn't know Sonic in Sonic 2006 or Sonic Rush. Some people have the weird contrived theory that since Blaze seals herself in another dimension at the end of Sonic 2006 (but before the timeline is reseted) she then appears in the dimension from Sonic Rush, sometimes the theory adds that she leaved Iblis behind in the alternate dimension and it is Ifrit from Sonic Rivals 2 and then she leaved for the regular Rush dimension. That has a very big inconsistency since she is a princess in her home dimension, meaning that not only she is supposed to be from that dimension, but her ancestors too. Maybe the timeline reset didn't reach her properly because she was in a different universe but rewrite history enough to made the new dimension "adopt" her? Crazy theories aside, Takashi Iizuka said in Sonic Boom 2012 that Blaze is from another dimension and Eggman Nega from the future. Iizuka is not the most trustable source of Sonic canon, but in lack of a better explanation I would say that I have no idea of the whole Blaze thing in Sonic 2006, but Eggman Nega is possibly from the future and he is just a liar because, I don't know, he is evil. So since he is an enemy of Eggman in the Sonic Rivals series but an ally of Eggman in the Sonic Rush series and since it is harder to transition from enemy to ally that from ally to enemy I guess they just had an argument after the Sonic Rush Adventure final boss and became enemies in Rivals. So it goes like this:

-Sonic 2006
-(Silver's Future is rewritten and whatever happened to Blaze)
-Sonic Rush
-Sonic Rush Adventure
-(Eggman and Eggman Nega have an argument)
-Sonic Rivals
-Sonic Rivals 2

Haven't commented on this timeline yet, which is surprising because Sonic was the first franchise I was really a "fan" of.

Anyways, I might be able to help you with the "Sonic the Comic" canon as I read it growing up and have reread it a couple of times as an adult. Its actually pretty solid as a continuity (except an annoying habit of putting "filler" stories being story arcs that are supposed to carry on through each other). There is also "sonic the poster mag" which is canonical to Sonic the Comic, albeit mostly as side stories.

You have also missed the early sonic manga, which is hard to access to be fair, but has an odd story which is a bit like "Shazam" in that Sonic is actually a young hedgehog Sunny who "transforms" into Sonic.

Also, Sonic the Comic, Archie Sonic and SaTaM all have fan continuations, will you be including them?

Yes, I am aware, there are actually various mangas about Sonic, some of them are actually just the intros of the games but in manga form, like the Sonic Unleashed one. I actually don't know what to do with that, since I have decided that I am going to stop putting alternate takes in the timelines like this:
Event 1/Retelling of Event 1
It just makes things extra confusing, I am just going to list new events, not retellings.
Since I don't actually want to pirate things, I don't really have access to any manga or any comic apart from the IDW ones. The info I got about Archie Sonic is just info from the wiki. I will put more thought into that once I am finished with the games.
