Capes and Their (Exc)uses

Capes are almost synonymous with superheroes, though it's not a very common design overall. The utility of capes has long been a question. Comic books will portray Superman using his cape to contain explosions or stretch across two trees to make a slingshot, etc. Batman has cape uses that range from stealth to defense to flight.

How practical these are is questionable, but it does at least give some narrative reason for wearing a cape (aside from warmth, which is the usual reason people wore them).

What are the strangest uses and excuses for a cape in comics that you've seen?
