Teh Sexy Monkey Queen
Did anyone else pick this up yesterday? I got it and it was a very good story. There are no fights, no brawls of any kind, but it is the set-up for the backup stories that will begin to run starting next week in X-Men #200.
Here's part of a review (with spoilers as well) from Newsarama:
The issue again is really good and Scott Eaton did an awesome job penciling it. Colors were magnificent to add.
5/5
As for the people who will draw and write the backups (mostly written by Mike Carey):
Here's part of a review (with spoilers as well) from Newsarama:
When previews of this story first appeared, with its funereal images, everyone made guesses as to the identity of the deceased. It turns out that it's someone we've never met. A faceless boy who once interviewed with Cyclops for a place at the school. And he's met his end not on a mission, not in a crossover, but in a simple, all-too-human traffic accident. The reason that the X-Men are drawn to his funeral is simple: after the Scarlet Witch's decree of "No more mutants", there are precious few mutant lives left. In a medium rife with resurrections and retcons, Mike Carey and the rest of the creative team may have actually found a way to make death matter.
Since essentially the whole of this issue is conversation, there is quite a bit of character-building taking place. Nightcrawler displays his mentor side with members of the New X-Men. Rahne and Rictor wax philosophical. The Beast contemplates how he might go out. Emma Frost deals from her traditional spot of misplaced anger as she and Cyclops telepathically spar over the best way to speak to the father of the dead boy.
And, in one of the best scenes, Cyclops himself has a rare heart-to-heart with Wolverine, flashing a little bit of wit but mainly questioning the place of mutants in the new social order.
The issue again is really good and Scott Eaton did an awesome job penciling it. Colors were magnificent to add.
